Hi, here's the Mount Pleasant bulletin of 26 June. Comments are always welcome!

CHICKEN STEW
Managers are short of staff in about every area of
the Mount - and if anyone happens to be on holiday
or has a day off, managers turn into headless
chickens, running here and there, to try to fill the
gaps. But of course, once they've "borrowed"
workmates from one area, they just create gaps
somewhere else...

THEY CUT TOO MANY JOBS & HOURS
So now management's bringing in casuals again. In
fact Processing would grind to a halt if these casuals
weren't here, thanks especially, to the latest (everongoing!!)
realignment. So when will the casuals -
and part-timers - be offered decent full-time
contracts? We're all obviously 100% essential to
management's needs!?

NOT AS CLEVER AS THEY THINK
Were managers trying to hide the fact that they
broke seniority rules during their last realignment,
by sending us individual letters to inform us about
our duties? And by only putting up the duty
allocations with our payroll number, rather than our
names?

EXTRA LIFTING? EXTRA HANDS!
So apparently RM's got a new contract with a
company for thousands of parcels that need
processing. There certainly aren't enough of us to
deal with this huge mountain. If managers think
we're going to break our arms or backs on this, they
can think again.

THEY'RE THE HAZARD
In Work Time Sleeping, managers showed us videos
explaining how we can keep ourselves safe from
hazards. Thanks for the advice, but it's them asking
each of us to work the equivalent of two or three
duties that's the real hazard!

MORE HANDS, LESS NOISE
We need decent ear plugs on the PSM, and not to
block out the machine's noise, but Mi-a-stake's
ranting and raving over missed targets and missorts.
Must we remind him that a minimum of 10
workers are allocated for the PSM? Still not enough,
but most of the time we're fewer! So he knows
what to do. Otherwise, put a cork in it!

WHOSE IDEA WAS THIS?
Management seems to have decided that we should
only have one break on the PSM late shift instead of
two. It means we're meant to work from 6pm
through the end of the shift, 4 hours non-stop! Even
though we still need to stop and rest, use the toilet,
take something to drink, etc...

WE'LL TAKE THE REST!
The excuse for cutting our 2nd break, we hear, was
managers' fear that the mail wouldn't be ready for
last dispatch... But who cut the heads and hands,
decided to stop using airports (Stansted), screwed
up network distribution, etc? We refuse to pay for
this by losing a vital 20-min rest.

THE MAGICIAN BUFFOON
We're told letter volumes are falling, but all we see
is an increasing pile of mail to sort. However,
wannabe-King Etcetera promised his boss that the
work would be cleared, despite the cut in full-time
duties... So now he's gonna have to find a bigger
hiding place for all the unsorted mail!

1+1=?
Last week on Nights, work on the Platforms
doubled, just like that! And what else do managers
think will happen, if the number of yorks to be
unloaded increases, while the number of people to
unload them stays the same?

PLANNING FOR CHAOS
It creates havoc in PSA if some Night lorries are late.
And this is often going to be the case from now on,
thanks to managers' use and abuse of agency
drivers, who they don't even give the correct
information so they can get to their destinations in
time!

WE CAN'T AND WON'T
Managers are deliberately allocating jobs to us
workers who have a disability, knowing that we
won't be able to do the work. They think it's going
to make us leave. Well sorry, it ain't gonna happen.
But neither are we going to accept jobs which we
can't do.

ROYAL MAIL MUST PAY...
For years drivers have been expected to pay their
own traffic fines. This should never have been the
case. However, with the increasing number of
restricted roads today and the impossibility of
getting around London without incurring one or
other penalty, it's time that RM paid...

...IT'S AN OBLIGATION!
In fact it's surprising that there isn't some kind of
agreement with local authorities that postal vehicles
which have an obligation to deliver to every address
are allowed free access down restricted roads at all
times. That's the USO isn't it?

Mmm. Thousands not millions? Wonder who that is?
