Ours was switched off as it apparently took longer to man at the MC than prepping the post at the DO!SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑30 Jun 2024, 09:49There are machines out there that can sequence flats and letters together. Re: Delivery 2.0
The way mail is dropping off posties might not need to worry about collecting any mail in a few years time, as it might only be delivered once a week, nobody really knows what RM might look like in 5 or so years time.Bounced_Czech wrote: ↑30 Jun 2024, 13:06The whole point of this exercise is to get rid of the smaller DOs and ultimately, a few years down the line, delivery posties will be collecting 'walks' from a central location or having them dropped off (probably at a cost.)ChrisBlack wrote: ↑30 Jun 2024, 09:10Speaking as someone with ADHD and ASD, the thought of having people talking and flapping about in my peripheral vision all morning is absolute s**t.
I already struggle with the constant shout-talkers, and thats with my frame being a barrier to it. Having it all alongside will make my stress levels go up a lot, as my brain cannot tune out movement and sound distractions very easily.
Hopefully this s**t idea won't be put into our office though as its a small office.
You can see this coming from a mile off

Could they defer the real shite to be delivered either if you’re going there anyway or for it to all get delivered at once over two designated days a week?

Re: Delivery 2.0
You have a point but I kind of think the opposite. People need to be accommodated as individuals to get the most out of them. Different personality types thrive with different management techniques and methods of working. The beauty of this job used to be that once you were out of the door you could pretty much suit yourself as long as the primary objective - deliver the mail - was achieved. Now everything and everyone is micro-managed in the same impersonal, dictatorial way and the primary objective is pretty much forgotten. "Doing your duty" can be impossible and the main guidance to enduring the job is "stop caring or thinking you have any responsibility".LouBarlow wrote: ↑29 Jun 2024, 05:55Here is a radical idea - instead of crowbarring in ridiculous new methods, why don’t those at the top, visit those offices that manage to run efficiently and within their budget, learn from what is being done right, and then apply those methods at a national level?
There are offices out there that are well run. The problem with RM is it is run like a franchise, with each office running independently, even from neighbouring DOs. Get everyone working in the same way.
I'm with the poster who who thinks they would struggle with the lack of boundaries here, I'm also a fan of personal space, my own territory and some degree of peace.

Not really sure there's that much control once we leave the DO, if you keep moving amd deliver mail/packets as instructed them management haven't really got a clue what you are doing.

RM hasn't invested in such a machine(s) in the last, what, let's say 30 years, so they probably are not going to look at it now with letters being down. We get a box or two of coded and then the bulk in manual.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑30 Jun 2024, 09:49There are machines out there that can sequence flats and letters together. Is it just me/my office or is the coded mail get weaker? It's all over the place at the moment. I'm not sure what is going on but it looks like it has not be run through the machines enough times. Few times last week I had something like 10-15 letters mixing into the coded that wasn't even for the particular walk and a couple that were not even for anywhere in the local office. Weird. It's getting weaker.

Has your DO been keeping the data on Route Planner (what used to be known as A+) up to date?Basildon Bond wrote: ↑01 Jul 2024, 04:44RM hasn't invested in such a machine(s) in the last, what, let's say 30 years, so they probably are not going to look at it now with letters being down. Royal Mail used to be ran along paramilitary lines. The trend of the last thirty years has been casualisation and, in my opinion very much to the contrary of everyone else, baseball caps and trainers have been the hallmarks of our descent into this shambolic state. There is no way they're going to turn around on this for it's one of the stations on the route toward the gig economy.
The machine stops.

Apologies to everyone who has one glued to their head but I can’t stand the baseball cap. Hopefully with the new design they will be on their way out.Mr Rush wrote: ↑01 Jul 2024, 16:38Royal Mail used to be ran along paramilitary lines. Your right the lino's we have grew up in the days of the remedial class which they were probably in,went back today and our only just realised he hadn't even covered 2 walks wondering why everything was still in the frame, you couldn't make this incompetence up,i've never laughed so muchPharox wrote: ↑29 Jun 2024, 12:11I have to agree with both of these statements. I can count on one hand how many weeks our frames (paired) that have been clear and still have 5 fingers to count with, this year. For the last 3 months, we have been delivering part of one duty from the pair, due to local management's lack of management skills, he often looks vacant, like the lights are on, but no one is home, then walks away. With no rest day cover, and my work partner being taken off his duty, once or twice a week, to cover another duty that has been failed for a few days. I cover tracked and specials, while he tries to deliver the other duty within our time. The place is a real sh*teshow. With our new dom/com giving us a motivational speech each week, not really helping a great deal.richietns wrote: ↑29 Jun 2024, 08:04I agree if you have thick skin and are able to tell your management no its the easiest its ever been mainly because we didn't really cut off,now with sisu and RMs own rules not giving a s**t about letters most people just bring the mail back.guardianangel wrote: ↑29 Jun 2024, 05:51im at the age now where i do as little as possible for as much as possible, the wealthy will always try to exploit the poor im just winning my own little battle ,and nothing gives me more pleasure than watching the steam come out of the lino's ear when he see's my failure to comply with his bullying, this job has become easier than 30 years ago.

Out of interest what would you suggest as an alternative, to protect my head from sun (and when it’s raining too).Barnacle wrote: ↑01 Jul 2024, 16:45Apologies to everyone who has one glued to their head but I can’t stand the baseball cap. And please don’t suggest that floppy wide hat that RM also provide which looks like I’m at Lords preparing to field in the 3rd innings!
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

The flappy wide hat that looks like you are about to take on the Aussies. You can put the sides up. Much better as it protects the back of your neck and ears.HTPostman wrote: ↑01 Jul 2024, 19:46Out of interest what would you suggest as an alternative, to protect my head from sun (and when it’s raining too).Barnacle wrote: ↑01 Jul 2024, 16:45Apologies to everyone who has one glued to their head but I can’t stand the baseball cap.
