How many grievances can a manager fend off?
Haven't put one in myself I should add but I know a manager who seems to survive despite being "Up against it".

Re: How many grievances can a manager fend off?
I was one of 6 people who put in grievances about a manager a few years ago. Same manager has had about 11 since. Literally nothing seems to happen to said manager. Remains in post. Would like to know myself why no action is ever taken.

Re: How many grievances can a manager fend off?
I know of a manager who had over 60 grievances from our office before he was promoted. He is still with the company. I think you'll find the more grievances a manager has, the more he is liked higher up the food chain!
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

That’s what it looks like but you would think it would need more of a marker of success in someway? ‘They’re getting all these grievances but their division is clear every day and lazy Bob has started doing his d2ds!’ Something, to show that they’re upsetting staff but it’s ‘working’?

Start writing letters to senior management thanking them for installing a manager that lets everyone leave stuff in, go home early and never puts pressure on the workers to get back to work when off sick
They will soon get rid of him/her
In all seriousness, it probably does have a bit of truth to it that the more grievances a manager gets the more the senior management have faith in them sadly

If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

How does it even work...
What actually happens when you put in a grievance, do upper management get told?
Do you have to go to HR and prove a manager has done something out of order to get him/her out the door? and what kind of thing would they have to do to be shown the door? or how many times does something have to happen to get them out?

When I did it I called HR on the number on out payslips, told them what was happening, they said it was harassment not bullying. It WAS bullying. Did I want to make a formal complaint? Yes. So they sent me a link to an online form where I gave all the details, dates, instances.norris9 wrote: ↑17 Jun 2024, 20:54How does it even work...

Nothing happened.
If everyone else is having their grievance described as harassment then surely it should flag up an issue? But seems not to.

Re: How many grievances can a manager fend off?
The problem with grievances is that they are often seen as a criticism of either your manager or employer and they are more than likely to be defensive in their response and counter it with allegations of poor performance. I'm no expert on this but I would strongly suspect that if you have a manager that his/her boss likes then that might be the main reason why most initial grievances are not going anywhere.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Then that would make the grievance process corrupt.postslippete wrote: ↑17 Jun 2024, 21:19The problem with grievances is that they are often seen as a criticism of either your manager or employer and they are more than likely to be defensive in their response and counter it with allegations of poor performance. I was recently involved in a supposed recruitment process which was nothing of the sort because the head manager only wanted one particular person to apply.
I considered putting in a grievance about the corruption of the process but decided against it because it would be cancelled out by the same head manager.
You can’t have them marking their own homework but that is exactly what happens. It’s corrupt as hell.

Can the union get involved with these grievances and push to get a bullying manager out?

Re: How many grievances can a manager fend off?
A-You take out a grievance on said manager.
B-You are assigned another manager to do grievance.
C-The two managers normally go for a drink down The Duck & Hen Sunday lunchtime & football together on a Saturday & discuss grievance.
D-They are remarkably found innocent.
E-Promotion of manager A is almost a cert.
BUT I will say there are some good Managers out there, normally old school who know the system inside out.
It’s these new Graduates that think frames of mail left in for days on end in the norm.

From what I've seen if manager gets enough grievances they get moved to a different office so they can go and do the same there. Same with poor performing ones. Do s**t, get moved elsewhere, do s**t there. Then again my old company was the same. Very few get managed out, they just moved the problem around like a s**t game of pass the s**t manager parcel.

Yeah, our office got handed one of these managers, then they were moved on from us.funkflex55 wrote: ↑18 Jun 2024, 15:15From what I've seen if manager gets enough grievances they get moved to a different office so they can go and do the same there. It's a joke.
All we need is fair and reasonable managers who use common sense and logic to resolve issues and make the office run as efficiently as possible....
Instead, every manager is a 'JUST GET IT DONE!' type, rather than someone who organises things better so more of the work gets done, and treats staff with respect and in return has staff who go above and beyond.

Use the Speak Up service, anonymously, if you can get hold of any good evidence of misconduct.
It goes straight above HR. HR are not there to protect staff, they are there to protect the company.
It's the only thing that has gotten me results when RM have been gaslighting and ignoring me.
