Question about Election material Payments and finishing on time.

Sorry to make another thread but I'm really struggling to figure out an answer about where I stand on this.

The question is, am I entitled to be paid for election material if my duty has other non-election mail failing every day because I finish on my time?

I absolutely never do any overtime, I finish on my time every single day and have done so for the past year and will continue to do so going forward.
Obviously this means mail gets left undelivered every day, as duties are too big and can't be completed within our normal shift hours when its this busy.

My manager said that because of this, I can't be paid for delivering election materials.

In the past when there's been an additional unrelated bulk posting we've been able to plead extenuating circumstances and haggled for half-time OT in return for clearing.

It's pretty much impossible to deliver the leaflets without having invested several hours of your own time throwing them in. I'd say about 80% of the work involved in doing election material is actually sorting it.

That's the way it was in the past.

You claim the election payment, obviously you'll go past your time delivering them and can't claim ot.

Other option, don't claim the payment, finish at your time, and bring more back than before.

If your manager is stating that he will not pay you to deliver election materials, then it is an unreasonable request to expect you to deliver them at the expense of mail. That is wilful delay of the mail.

If it was me, I would let the election materials sit there (not polling cards or postal votes), and suggest that they are taken by someone who wants the payment.

I don't go over my time. I deliver the election material in the set amount of days we are told and claim for them. If I can't finish on time I bring them back and try again the next day. They would never find anyone else to deliver them anyway. But yes, how ever many you deliver in duty time, claim for them.

It’s you can’t go over and claim overtime and claim for the election material. Unless your going over delivering tracked (at least that’s my theory)

All the manager wants is the election stuff done. He is now pulling his hair out as the amount of leaflets being left by the callers frame is growing daily. People are just claiming for them but delivering where they are going.

A snap election, so i know these leaflets are being maybe printed late, but getting 1 one day, 2 the next, and today another. The frame is a mess, there has been no guidance, whereas before you would stay out and clear them, paid O/T. But the manager refuses to pay excess if you go over.

Yes it’s a massive mess. We have been told they have all got to go by Monday but they are still coming in. No overtime for doing them just 3p each, on our rurals you’re going to get maybe 30/40 an hour done, there’s not many takers for 90p - £1.20 per hour.

The real deadline at this point is Wednesday. That’s the last chance to deliver any of them. We had 3 lots arrive today

I don’t get this bollocks about not being paid overtime to do election material. I’ve been over most days delivering them and have claimed with no questions at all-same with others at our office. Then again, we are being paid 3.2p each, whereas others supposedly get up to 6p.

Yes we could smell the BS but I’m not talking about DTS stuff. I’m on about leaflets they are still appearing daily. Apparently RM have done a deal with Labour on a leaflet that’s due for delivery over 2 days next week (Monday/tuesday) I know we have done this in the past but the number of delivery points are over double what they were back then

The agreement is clear - if the traffic is heavy then overtime can be paid.
