Absolute shambles

Post by comeracing »

These later starting times are an absolute shambles ,morons still coming in early for nothing, RM fully new this would be the case, getting to my first delivery point on average about 1 hr 30 minutes later now , summer hours mean reduced working times yet mail lorry's arriving at offices at least an hour later ,what a joke 28 years in the job never been so pi##ed off .

This week with election leaflets and the heat has seriously got me thinking I need to get out. It's not bad what is happening. Its insane. They are utterly clueless.

Baffling why RM didn't just delay the summer hours until after the GE is over. They moved it around enough all ready for countless reasons. We now have later starts combined with election material, so more work but less time to do it!

Not trying to wind you up at all but where we are now is the easiest it’s ever been. Come in on time, take the break, finish on time. I’m waking less miles than i ever used to with the way this place is run. The business is bloated with bad managment on the top level and its not yours mine or any worker on the shop floors problem.

Well I am glad you’re doing okay , because some of us aren’t, double mail every day, parcel volumes through the roof ,D2D’s lagging behind because of the volume of mail and then the election stuff just as an extra kick in the goolies. Yeah, having a great time, where Royal Mail get their figures from I do not know and yes I start on time and finish on time and I don’t want or need overtime thanks.

A far more effective remedy for our climate woes would be for those at the top to... top themselves. Or instead of flying the mail we can have them fly out a window. Alas, the environmental excuse is a complete distraction to drag everyone down into an undignified debate on the existence of climate change when the truth is right out in the open: 'extending the network window'. It won't stop until Later Acceptance items are on the main delivery; or rearranged, until main delivery is aligned with LATs times.

Gotta make that money! DK knows a guy who can get you Russian caviar on the down-low but it ain't cheap.
The machine stops.

I know we're not fans of "two-tier" systems around here (for the workforce). However, what a about a two-tier postcode? You know that common delivery text you see on websites delivery information that states...
UK Mainland only and excludes Northern Ireland, Scottish Highlands, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight.
What if RM did,,,
UK Mainland only and excludes Northern Ireland, Scottish Highlands, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight. And if your mailbox is up a hill, or at the ass end of a long country lane that is wearing the van out just to drop of your Chums magazine. Or you live on the top floor of a high-rise block, or you're on a street that overall doesn't get much mail so it doesn't justify us stopping to do that bag today (we'll probably catch you tomorrow).
Basically RM creates A-class postcodes and B-class postcodes. A-class is in the USO; B-class are not and are on a "best effort" approach (which means you'll get your mail probably every few days to a week. However, it will be a lot quicker if there is a Tracked item for you or your neighbour).

:dance

I joke; but that process may actually work for some offices.

And that is the death of the USO.

The point that poster was making, is, as easy as it is to say, for those of us who still give a damn about the job, all you have to worry about is your start and finish time. Let management work out the rest. And yes, I know it can be a constant argument every day with management over what to leave and what to take, but until they make your rounds achievable, you need to rethink your approach to your working day.

Got a few guys in my office that talk the same as you every day , you need to switch off , this is Royal Mails doing, come to work with the attitude that you will do what you can within your contracted hours and things become less stressful.

But the union could have done their job and requested that the management ceased this pointless exercise for a month knowing the pressure we would be put under but as always they go quiet as it does not affect them and then we have to have the same arguments every morning makes you why you bother paying their subs :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

Yes & no.

I guess it also depends how the office you work at is run and how management treat you.

Clearing the mail isn't as important now as it once was. The rounds are too big and so many posties don't complete, so management can't say much, but they still do, but not as bad as they once did.

Are we walking more or less or about the same? - I am not sure - we are getting out later as there is more to prep, but we are working our full hours now - this wasn't the case in the past. A few years ago you could do single or double lapsing and still complete 30 minutes early and get to go home early - not everyday, but a couple of times a week.

The company could be run with a lot more common sense and efficiency, but it seems Royal Mail management prefer things to run inefficiently based on how many bad decisions they make.

But if the union approached RM and said "we think delaying summer hours for a month would be a good idea and we're prepared to advise our members to agree to a delay" why would RM dismiss the suggestion? if they did why hasn't DW come out and said that's the case instead of telling us who we should vote for in the GE when we are all - you'd hope - capable of making our own minds up.
