Also, we probably put about 2000 tonnes of junk D2D through everyday. If the company cared about green they'd stop doing D2D but unfortunately cash rules everything around them, cream, get the money, dollar dollar bill y'all
What sort of business turns away work?
Millions of £££ worth too.
RM rakes in over £1b per year from D2Ds.
Question really is, why are these companies still producing leaflets that everyone calls junk mail because they immediately bin them? Do they just want to boost recycling
’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’
On a smaller scale I can't get my head around why they're still sending out re-direction material in plastic envelopes.
Some days a single plastic envelope can have a single A4 sheet of paper with an updated list of re-dirs for a walk.
There must be thousands of these envelopes pushed out every single day. Why haven't they got round to using paper
envelopes like they were proud to gob off about when they changed what the propaganda rag comes in.
The redirection plastic bag was ended more than three years ago at ours. Very sadly missed. It's a bugger when a firm moves and every letter needs an individual sticker.
We've got boxes full of 'em at our place. People can't be arsed going to grab one off the shelf. They'd rather stick individual stickers on letters.

What about popping all the letters in the right sized damage bag, cross out the text about being damaged (the customer will see there is no damage anyway - and if there is - it's already in a bag!), and put one sticker on the bag?
Letters in damage bags must be able to move through the system as if a letter is actually damaged and needs a redirection it should first be put in a bag before it is forwarded. It may not arrive at the correct DO as coded or manual, but it even as a packet - it'll get there.
Redirections go through as manual. Same with any item in a damaged bag or the customer survey bags (not seen any for a while so don't know if they've stopped it)

I saw a customer survey one just last week (it caught my eye because I thought it was a damage bag and the item was undamaged). As for redirection bags, how often does someone get more than two letters that need to be redirected on a given day anymore? I haven't ran out of redirection stickers before expiry in quite some time.

We get through sometimes a bundle of mail banded up, with a redirection label stuck on where the elastic bands meet

When that happens a few at our place including me take the top one off with the redirection sticker on and the rest go in the missorts back to the offending office, yeah I'm awkward like that.

That’s hilarious! This ‘technique’ was shown to me as an insider top tip when I first started. Little did he know that Ted was returning the mail right back to him

Yeah, I see some people still doing that and it always irks me. If the elastic band snaps then the unlabelled loose items get reprocessed through the network. I remember the warning at my induction about sending items back through the system. Wilful delay isn't what it once was.
Royal Mail’s in-house engineering team was tasked with designing a replacement for the traditional single-use fabric and cardboard trolley inserts used in mail centres and delivery offices, which would be reusable, increase capacity and more compatible with automated machinery.
Since when were the fabric York inserts ‘single use’? And if these plastic abominations were only meant to replace carboard inserts, then why have they been binning the fabric sleeves which last years longer than the plastic rubbish?
And if this is all about being GREEN and NET ZERO then since when is plastic greener than cardboard which is itself recycled?
Spot on. That article is absolute bullshit propaganda. Also, we probably put about 2000 tonnes of junk D2D through everyday. If the company cared about green they'd stop doing D2D but unfortunately cash rules everything around them, cream, get the money, dollar dollar bill y'all
Of course cash rules, how do you think they pay your wages, it’s not by turning away work is it
