Welcome to Royal Mail.

If you extend your delivery you can't claim the poll card money as far as I understand. Your manager shouldn't be withholding your overtime money, they are doing that to make their figures look better.

If you don't want overtime and you're on a permanent contract, don't do it. If you on a temporary contract it's probably in your interest to do it until you get taken on.

If you get asked to go to another delivery office, tell them you want to start at your office and finish at your office at the usual times and you will either need a company van or be driven there. Most standard UK car insurance doesn't allow for driving to other workplaces other than your usual one, you would need business insurance for that.

It never ceases to amaze me how s**t some managers are, it sounds as though you're doing quite well so why on earth would they treat someone badly, you'd have thought they'd simply pay the overtime considering its for real actual work done by someone trying their best, I mean it's not as if there's a seemingly endless queue of people that want to work here you'd have thought the prick would have been actively trying to encourage you rather than trying their best to piss you off.

And they wonder why new recruits don’t stay long , your manager sounds like a clown . There is no such thing as compulsory overtime so don’t feel you have to do it . The poll card situation is a bit complicated, you get paid a certain amount to deliver them so you don’t get overtime for them but that doesn’t mean you have to work over your time to complete them , you usually have 3 days to deliver poll cards.

Not true, sadly. Three people at our place have already been dismissed for not passing their trial period. A fourth has been told he has failed his trial period and is awaiting a meeting with the lead com to discuss dismissal. (This is/was after having their trial periods extended to nine months at the six-month review stage.)

Details...I need details! :Very Happy

Can you share the reasons? It may help some on here as I haven't seen one person canned - even for backing into a wall with a van.

As far as I am aware, you can claim the OT or the polling card money, not both. Just claim the OT.

In regards the other point and probationers - we have definitely had a few let go recently, for various reasons. Going off route, leaving mail in bags/pouches etc.

He appears to have deleted his original query 🤔
’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’

I’ll share details of just one from April as the others might be a bit too location-specific.

We had a lady postie who was very good and fast at job but also very opinionated and repeatedly clashed with one of the young female managers. She had her trial period extended for three months at the six-month trial review because she was, supposedly, talking too much, criticising managers (specifically the female one she clashed with) to longstanding staff, not following management instructions. At eight and a half months she had a minor accident in the van, accidentally reversing into a wall (very low speed, zero damage to van, though some small damage to a section of low garden wall) ) and was taken off driving. Then at ten months (yes a month after it should have been) it was a “not met trial standards”, followed by a perfunctory meeting with the lead com, then dismissed with notice. The van accident gave them all they needed, though I think her fate was already sealed.

On the other side of the coin, we’ve had others pass their trial period with flying colours even where they’ve had multiple complaints, multiple sickness absences, multiple locking out of van, etc, etc. Like anything in life, I suppose it all comes down to how well they think you do the job and if they like you.

They must have been on the rob if they’re getting fired. Loads coming and going at our places this year what a mess.

They need to make it worth your while if they want you to work over. Managers will try to bully even the hardest workers so no point working too hard. If you are sent to another office you can still start and finish at your office on your time and they have to provide you a van or a lift to the other office.
