Start time - full meal break- finish time.
That's pretty all you need to worry about, if you can't complete you can't complete, I wouldn't worry as it used to be a pride thing to be able to clear a frame, when workloads becomes impossible to do that, you have to cut it down to a managable level and get the management to deal with the rest you can't take.

I've seen printouts. Manual mail is estimated per duty and then further estimated per delivery point. How? I don't know. I presume it's inferred through Bertha crunching previous numbers, maybe calculated by weight (like the old days emptying the incoming bags and putting the trays on scales) or some other indirect method. Most importantly: it is flawless and indisputable even if it was produced via colonic irrigation.funkflex55 wrote: ↑05 Jun 2024, 21:16I'm not sure that magic spreadsheet can count things that aren't mech.

The reason why they wont hire anymore staff is because the staff they already have go above and beyond to clear the rounds by coming in early, not taking breaks and running round or staying out breaking their backs on OT.

It's done by "Average Container Fill" or ACF. They work out the average per york/sleeve/bag/tray for each stream of mail. Then it's the ACF x the number of yorks/sleevs/bags/trays for that stream.Mr Rush wrote: ↑06 Jun 2024, 00:05I've seen printouts. Re: Not enough bloody staff!
I was like this in the past worrying about clearing the frame working days off just to cover the shift as there would be nobody else doing it.
It's got to the point where we all have a starting time and finish time, and as long as I can do everything I can within that time frame, if mail gets brought back or having to leave a bit in the frame, it's up to management to deal with the influx of stuff that comes through the network.
With the times changing, I can see more people doing less overtime. Sad times ahead.

If you clear it by doing overtime ect... then it will happen all the time. Your manager knows this. Fail it and don't rush and trust me it won't happen to you again. Managers know who the vulnerable ones are and take advantage.

I will say, on the few occassions they've bothered to hold a 'startup' meeting for PT staff the reported call rate has been bang on. At least in terms of my little exercise counting off which doors I hit on the first loop. I haven't continued with that because we haven't had a meeting in a month and we've rolled-over a duty all but once since.
19/4, 46%, 16mins; 22/4, 37%, 16mins. It does not scale.
Call rates have halved(?) in the last decade. Well the loop didn't take twice as long in 2014: the average for the week beginning April 21st is... 21 minutes. Take that with a pinch of salt because I hadn't done the duty before. In fact, take all this with a salt shaker.
The machine stops.

Call rates have halved in the last decade... It depends where you post I guess. We have thousands of new addresses in ours, new builds add call rate obviously. But where there's a new build the call rate on the old build goes up.Mr Rush wrote: ↑06 Jun 2024, 17:25Thanks, I originally wrote a line saying you'd no doubt tell usSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑06 Jun 2024, 07:08It's done by "Average Container Fill" or ACF. Re: Not enough bloody staff!
Plus packets have increased, I had double mail on my duty today but it hardly took me much longer than normal to deliver, it was the amount of packets which I struggled with, throwing mail though a letterbox takes seconds, standing at a door waiting for the customer to find the key to open their front door takes minutes. in my DO packets/parcels now seem higher than they were during COVID.enskied wrote: ↑06 Jun 2024, 21:02Call rates have halved in the last decade... Re: Not enough bloody staff!
This is the problem I face on a regular basis. I prep my frame with letters and pkts, ready to tie down. I call my lino over to ask what he wants me to do. He looks at the frame, looks that the pkts, tells me he does not see any problem as I have gaps in the frame. I say to him its not the mail I have a problem with, its the pkts!!! He looks at the frame again, pulls a face and walks away. Most of these linos can't manage a blank piece of paper!

Bunch of hire vans in the yard when we got back (late) today. Big push on agency staff if they're expecting election gumph to be starting perhaps.
