Problem is if somebody doesn't find a way of reducing costs then RM may not exist.GRS wrote: ↑25 Apr 2024, 20:17Reading through this thread gives us the answer as to why the company is in such a mess. Talk about making something so simple so complicated!!
For hundreds of years we collected letters from Point A and delivered them to Point B. All it is is putting a piece of paper through a hole that’s been cut in a door or knocking and passing over a cardboard box. But no we have to employ every Senior Manager who went through the Business School of Retardation and each one comes up with a further stupid complicated idea to try and solve the mess that the last idea caused. Talk about trying to reinvent the wheel, christ strip it back and get back to basics!!!

My guess is all mail will be processed the same, prepped the same, only you will leave items in the frame that are not first class stamped mail. E.g when prepping make sure any first class letters are placed at the front of the slot, so you only deliver to that address and pull out mail when bundling up. Anything else will be left behind. It is pretty easy to distinguish stamped mail if you prep this way.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑23 Apr 2024, 10:17We'd just send the 1C as manual if the DSA and the 2C ever got held back together as there's so little 1C that it wouldn't be worth running the machines

I've seen it mentioned before on posts that about 10k leave 'naturally' each year anyway - on that basis don't think there'll be many voluntary/forcedguardianangel wrote: ↑25 Apr 2024, 21:13Lets hope they have 7000 to 9000 redundancies because i need to go, even then i reckon it will be well over subscribed.
redundancies unless DK takes over.

Not saying that you are wrong, that's could be the way they want to do it but, where is all the extra prep time coming from? everyone prepping at least 2 or 3 rounds worth on top of a longer delivery day if you are going everywhere, D2d's would only go out 2 or 3 times a week so you would be prepping and delivering half or a third frame of them as well, that's a hell of a lot to fit into one day, and every day will be the sameLouBarlow wrote: ↑26 Apr 2024, 07:52My guess is all mail will be processed the same, prepped the same, only you will leave items in the frame that are not first class stamped mail. And the overriding issue, is an acceptance of failing walks every single day. Instead of the ethos being ‘clear the office’ it will shift to one of a permanent state of failure and in the new normal if anything happens such as, staff sickness or low staffing, the mail will pile high in no time because there will already be a backlog sitting in the frames.sorefeet17 wrote: ↑26 Apr 2024, 09:22Not saying that you are wrong, that's could be the way they want to do it but, where is all the extra prep time coming from? everyone prepping at least 2 or 3 rounds worth on top of a longer delivery day if you are going everywhere, D2d's would only go out 2 or 3 times a week so you would be prepping and delivering half or a third frame of them as well, that's a hell of a lot to fit into one day, and every day will be the sameLouBarlow wrote: ↑26 Apr 2024, 07:52My guess is all mail will be processed the same, prepped the same, only you will leave items in the frame that are not first class stamped mail. It will also be much easier for people to knowingly leave mail in the frame on days its meant to go out, as surely this new system would make it impossible for managers to keep on top of everything.

Excellent point. A successful day will be impossible to quantify.

Won't all duties due to have 1c & 2c delivered that day all be cleared?
No idea what happens with the 1c deliveries as you can't expect "Evie" to go though 3 duties frames pulling out just the 1c mail. Although that in itself is madness as why leave 2c post in the frame for the following day if she's already delivering 1c post for the same address?

There’s a post just above that suggests we would select certain mail to be delivered, leaving other mail in the frame. So the frame would never be clear.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑26 Apr 2024, 15:17Surely the fittings should be clear of mail every other working day

Every other day it should be cleared under the latest proposals, as on those days 1c & 2c both go out as do D2D's.Barnacle wrote: ↑26 Apr 2024, 17:00There’s a post just above that suggests we would select certain mail to be delivered, leaving other mail in the frame. They're like the Futurists graduated from the Dunning-Kruger school of BS (business studies?). There's breaking out of tired convention and then there's just breaking everything. It all sounds very exciting accelerating into modernity until you realise people don't like their lives being turned upside down over and over with absolutely no sign of stability forthcoming. They continually boast about the company being 500 years old yet are absolutely determined to throw away any kind of notion of reliability or dependability in order to turn us into Evri2 - yet another parcel courier amongst many all chasing down the same customers for the cheapest service money can buy. They're only keeping the name, hollowed out, so they can trade on it. They'll tell you "We had to destroy the village in order to save it". Thanks.GRS wrote: ↑25 Apr 2024, 20:17Reading through this thread gives us the answer as to why the company is in such a mess. Talk about making something so simple so complicated!!

Re: RMCtv : Update on our Universal Service reform submission and further business progress
On the contrary - we have actually been increasing our revenue. Whilst letter traffic might have substantially reduced from 20 billion letters to 7 billion, a 1st class stamp was only 30p in 2005.
The issue isn't so much about reducing costs to make Royal Mail profitable, we have been doing this consistently with bigger duties, less full time staff, less delivery offices etc etc and major shareholders have taken over £2 billion out of the company since 2013. While Royal Mail has taken a hit in recent years, this has been strategic due to regular investments in parcel modernisation both in the UK and in Europe. Reforming the USO is another potential money spinner for Royal Mail in the same way as less sick pay and new recruits on less long term pay is.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
