If we have to run a batch in 2 lots it WILL take longer to run the batches, there's no avoiding that. Some batches are already about 20 boxes with the DTS system so if you start getting all 2C covered by the DTS then there's no way that we'll be able to run the batches in one hit. The alternative would be to send the "overflow" to DOs as manual.

Re: RMCtv : Update on our Universal Service reform submission and further business progress
I hardly see a '1' or a '2' on anything anymore. I can remember the few occassions I've seen Mailsort in the last decade. I do see endless logos for UKMail, Whistl, the ironically titled Delivery Group, Citipost, the satirically named Postcom, etc, etc... all of whom are creaming off something as redundant intermediaries.
I don't think any of them are losing a million a day. I've yet to see any of them establish an end-to-end network per the intended goal of liberalising the postal market.
The machine stops.

We'd just send the 1C as manual if the DSA and the 2C ever got held back together as there's so little 1C that it wouldn't be worth running the machines

Whoever thought of it (2c alternate days), ought not to have their every brain fart reported as fact.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑23 Apr 2024, 10:17We'd just send the 1C as manual if the DSA and the 2C ever got held back together as there's so little 1C that it wouldn't be worth running the machines

The routes go out on alternate days (apart from 1C) so everything will still need to get sorted into separate rounds everyday, and half will need to be sequenced, but yeah seeing as our sequenced mail comes in with half the letters upside down as it is, I'm not building up my hopes that this will be a smooth transition

If a letter gets run through an iLSM or IMP as outward at the outward MC then it has to stay upside down through the system otherwise it'll get rejected (the machine won't find the barcode where it expects to find it).sorefeet17 wrote: ↑23 Apr 2024, 18:28The routes go out on alternate days (apart from 1C) so everything will still need to get sorted into separate rounds everyday, and half will need to be sequenced, but yeah seeing as our sequenced mail comes in with half the letters upside down as it is, I'm not building up my hopes that this will be a smooth transition
Sometimes mail gets run through upside down if it'll run better through the machines.

What's the betting Amazon wouldn't have the same issues if they ever took on delivering letters?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑23 Apr 2024, 19:44If a letter gets run through an iLSM or IMP as outward at the outward MC then it has to stay upside down through the system otherwise it'll get rejected (the machine won't find the barcode where it expects to find it).sorefeet17 wrote: ↑23 Apr 2024, 18:28The routes go out on alternate days (apart from 1C) so everything will still need to get sorted into separate rounds everyday, and half will need to be sequenced, but yeah seeing as our sequenced mail comes in with half the letters upside down as it is, I'm not building up my hopes that this will be a smooth transition

Is that why every other letter is upside down in my bundlesSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑23 Apr 2024, 19:44If a letter gets run through an iLSM or IMP as outward at the outward MC then it has to stay upside down through the system otherwise it'll get rejected (the machine won't find the barcode where it expects to find it).sorefeet17 wrote: ↑23 Apr 2024, 18:28The routes go out on alternate days (apart from 1C) so everything will still need to get sorted into separate rounds everyday, and half will need to be sequenced, but yeah seeing as our sequenced mail comes in with half the letters upside down as it is, I'm not building up my hopes that this will be a smooth transition

I hope a company statistician can tell me how much time we lose every day every walk unflipping these letters. That's surely something they'd gleam from the Bench Merging trials.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑23 Apr 2024, 19:44Sometimes mail gets run through upside down if it'll run better through the machines.

You'd loose even more time if we didn't run it upside down. If we know a certain posting will run really s**t either right way up or upside down we'll put it to one side and it'll go in the rejects box. We've had mail before which just doesn't run when put through the right way up (just causes an absolute shitload of jams)Mr Rush wrote: ↑24 Apr 2024, 00:18I hope a company statistician can tell me how much time we lose every day every walk unflipping these letters. Just charge people a £10 monthly fee to be delivered mail 5 days a week.... if they don't pay the fee then they get mail 3 days a week instead at no charge...
How many people will sign up to the 5 day service....I don't think many. It will mainly be the firms / schools / etc + people working from home who receive work related mail.
This will allow people to have the option of the 5 day service but at a cost, which could also potentially be extra income for Royal Mail.

Re: RMCtv : Update on our Universal Service reform submission and further business progress
Reading through this thread gives us the answer as to why the company is in such a mess. Talk about making something so simple so complicated!!
For hundreds of years we collected letters from Point A and delivered them to Point B. All it is is putting a piece of paper through a hole that’s been cut in a door or knocking and passing over a cardboard box. But no we have to employ every Senior Manager who went through the Business School of Retardation and each one comes up with a further stupid complicated idea to try and solve the mess that the last idea caused. Talk about trying to reinvent the wheel, christ strip it back and get back to basics!!!

Lets hope they have 7000 to 9000 redundancies because i need to go, even then i reckon it will be well over subscribed.
