Re: Scanning passports in to core route?
I Always upload route to cloud first as need to then scan my Lapse Route for consumer collections and then tie up.
Locker so late getting specials ready we would be waiting all day if we had to wait and see if we had a tracked from them to scan to core before tying up.
If we do , just go ready for delivery on the indoor.
Nobody has ever been pulled up by the managers for doing that.

We scan any tracked "ready for delivery" then when we cut off everything comes back & we just leave it on the frame for tomorrow, no questions asked.

Re: Scanning passports in to core route?
We been told if tracked don’t get scanned in they effectively fail even with a door step scan. It will show its last location at previous mail centre or wherever so makes office look like it’s failing or something like that..LouBarlow wrote: ↑16 Apr 2024, 14:40If the locker scans them you don’t have to. Our managers don’t even seem that fussed about scanning regular tracked in the morning. As long as we always get the doorstep scan, that is what they seem to be focussed on. I scan everything with a barcode in, except for any items in the locker.postmanzach wrote: ↑16 Apr 2024, 09:34Ours get scanned ready for delivery in the special locker, so Is it really necessary for them to need a second scan to core route?

Yes I am aware of this.derekm wrote: ↑16 Apr 2024, 18:34you can scan ready for delivery on your pda instead of core route
The phg does this and then we are told To then scan them in again. Doesn’t really matter tbh just wondered why.. guess it’s just to be sure as it’s a big contract.

Re: Scanning passports in to core route?
I've never scanned a passport onto core route or ready for delivery. AFAIK no-one does in my office. There's no need as it's had a scan in the SD locker.
The amount of times people on delivery tell me they knew it was coming shows they're being notified of the delivery date somehow. Perhaps from the Passport Office?
It was handy on Wednesday actually as I forgot I had one for a particular house and was just about to drive off when a lady came out of the house and asked me about it. Saved me having to go back later.

Exactly the same scenario here. They definitely know the time they are due and we do not scan to core route. The only scan is done in the locker and we are given them along with our specials. I actually had a ‘debate’ with a customer over this as he was trying to tell me the arrival time was binding whereas it still remains an estimate.GizzardPuke wrote: ↑18 Apr 2024, 23:00I've never scanned a passport onto core route or ready for delivery. Same here, the previous posts stating you have to scan to core route are incorrect, you dont, we were told we don't from the onset, I also never have, if it was national standard procedure to do so then surely it would have been flagged up instantly on day one.LouBarlow wrote: ↑19 Apr 2024, 05:10Exactly the same scenario here. Re: Scanning passports in to core route?
This is obviously another thing that differs from office to office. I work in one of the large offices and if it is Tracked, you scan it to core route no matter what it is.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑19 Apr 2024, 06:23Same here, the previous posts stating you have to scan to core route are incorrect, you dont, we were told we don't from the onset, I also never have, if it was national standard procedure to do so then surely it would have been flagged up instantly on day one.LouBarlow wrote: ↑19 Apr 2024, 05:10Exactly the same scenario here. Re: Scanning passports in to core route?
Just type tracking number into track and trace and see if 'Due to be delivered today by' comes up for that date. If it does (pretty sure it will) then have nothing to do, else scan it.

Re: Scanning passports in to core route?
I think it's because the locker only scans them as ready for delivery, they don't allocate them to a particular duty.
So if they fail, it looks on the data like locker failure.
They need to be tracked and accounted every step, they're passports after all, and its hardly difficult for us to do.

Re: Scanning passports in to core route?
I think we're missing something here guys ....... Should passports be delivered as Tracked Items, with NO SIGNATURE required ?
IMO they should still be delivered as SPECIALS in a nice shiney silver envelope.
FFS if a passport isn't a SPECIAL WTF is? I'm finding nowadays Specials are increasing made up from:
People that forget an important event, and want to ensure their Mum gets her Birthday Card ......
Parcels from Suppliers, that have had a bollocking for not delivering something and want to ensure they don't get another bollocking ......
and "Important" fittings for various gizmos, that I'm sure could go through the normal mail system. Lately a lot of bits & pieces for pubs (for their pumps) and tradesmen working on houses that need that Important Widget!
Not to forget all the weird foreign "Specials" with barcodes that when you scan don't ask you for anything
I believe it's just penny-pinching by the Home Office, and it's an insecure system. It's too easy to pop someone's passport through the wrong letterbox, just like a normal misssort. I prefer to knock the door and hand it to the customer.

Re: Scanning passports in to core route?
I think this has explained/confirmed why such as our office don't have to scan to core as our locker allocates them to duty along with the specials, whereas others must be just scanning RFD.sindba wrote: ↑19 Apr 2024, 16:23I think it's because the locker only scans them as ready for delivery, they don't allocate them to a particular duty.

Re: Scanning passports in to core route?
Why? You'll spend more time messing about with RM's T&T than you would just scanning it RFD.

In my office we have to scan passports and specials in to core route
