Royal Mail's overall profits are down because they have spent billions over the last few years in parcel automation and super-hubs but are still forced to deliver the USO. GLS is currently more profitable even though it is a relatively small company with over 20,000 employees delivering parcels. Just imagine how profitable RM could be if it had the same business model as GLS? This must be what Kretinsky is thinking and why he's prepared to spend half of his own fortune in a takeover bid. He is obviously smelling blood in the water of the fact that our shares were nearly at 52 week lows which could see shares doubling in value - just like they did during the pandemic when we delivered more parcels and letters every other day. Whatever the reasons its certainly a very cheeky opportunistic bid of buying the company when its of very low value knowing that record profits could just be around the corner in a few years time.
You have to wonder how much of this has been surreptitiously prepared for because there is no longer intratrading between RM and GLS, so that makes it easier for some random billionaire with loads of shares to see how separate entities might look.

£3.20 a share would that have cost him £700m?.
The takeover would have cost him £3- 4 billion according to other sources.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Can anyone explain the £3.20 a share thingy to a tired postie? Would that mean those of us with shares are offered the opportunity to sell them to him for £3.20 each?
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

CWU RESPONSE TO BREAKING NEWS OF POTENTIAL ROYAL MAIL TAKEOVER

The breaking news of an impending takeover bid for Royal Mail Group (IDS) by Daniel Kretinsky is another significant moment.

The truth is handing over the ownership of one of the UK’s most prestigious institutions to a foreign equity investor cannot be right. But neither is the current model or direction of the company.

The truth is Royal Mail needs a new ownership and governance model that builds a postal service for the workers and customers and not one built solely focused on shareholder payouts and driving down the service and the terms and conditions of the workers.

The CWU will be campaigning publicly and politically to deliver this change of direction.

Deputy General Secretary (Postal)
Christ!! Kretinsky will be quaking in his boots.......Not!
What we need is a strongly worded letter from big Dave and a meeting with the potential investors where the CWU cronies will map out their alternative vision for the future.

Said meeting will be cancelled 5 times.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

How long has Dave Ward been head honcho and do they serve terms or do they stay until they decide to leave or get ousted?

Yes, but it's looking highly likely DK will make a higher bid and rumours there maybe other potential bidders in the background.

I think if an offer is acceptable to IDS then shareholders have to sell at the agreed price, potentially making a lose.

Given the profits to be made if you remove the money losing part of the company I.e us, it seems to be money well spent.

People ordering parcels online is never going to decline in popularity, unlike people sending letters.

There's no real signs of record profits being around the corner, if OFCOM don't agree to the changes to the USO anytime soon we could be looking at record losses (assuming the figures produced are genuine). RM could only become really profitable if it can somehow offload the letters & small packets I'm not sure the Government would allow that although, Labour have apparently already said they are open to the takeover.

Having the government control the distribution of letters is a massive vote winner. Even if it equates to a financial loss part renationalising Royal Mail would be popular.

Not sure Labour need any vote winners they have to then finance if they win the next election, given they look likely to win it anyway.

Why, who cares about letters anymore? Equally why would any govt renationalise a dying industry?

OfCom have already agreed to a reform to the USO and have put forward a number of options of how the company can save millions! They have been in collusion with Royal Mail for some years now. Obviously reducing the actual number of delivery days, like not delivering any mail on a Saturday, would need government approval. But Royal Mail's recent proposals to delivering the 2c every other day by cutting nearly 1,000 jobs and thereby saving £300 million a year is well within their remit. I'm not sure how they would also improve quality of service but would it really matter considering that OfCom merely handed the company a measly £5.6 million for failing the USO?

Kretinsky said last year that he had no intentions in buying RM - what's changed now do you think?
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
