I know it sounds absurd, but you can actually book holidays without having to worry about your place of work or managers staffing issues. (They get paid 50K plus bonuses remember
It's the law in this country, although you wouldn't think it working in delivery for RM.
These sort of benefits will be gone soon enough and the 'amazonification' will be complete for these pencil pushers up top.

Re: 1000 redundancies
Not quite what you intend I'm sure, but you can just change your estimated leaving time 20 minutes later (Or whatever is appropriate), you'll be ahead until you take break, then you'll be on time. as much as I hate RM for a lot of things, this one isn't so easy to perfect. Guess we could have a "plan break" button to choose where it is in your time estimates and it'd just take a parcel spot and be a big red "TAKE BREAK" line? don't think that'd be toooo hard.Barnacle wrote: ↑14 Apr 2024, 14:51If they could do that with SISO, it’s a pity they didn’t add that time allowance into RoN. Re: 1000 redundancies
You can’t make it work like that: by simply adding 20mins to your leaving time, because the whole timing is out. It will calculate that the route will take 4 hours, but that’s only if there are no other road users and you don’t have to circle three times to try and get near somewhere on a one way system, so the actual time the route will take is closer to 5 & a half hours.R5001 wrote: ↑14 Apr 2024, 16:58Not quite what you intend I'm sure, but you can just change your estimated leaving time 20 minutes later (Or whatever is appropriate), you'll be ahead until you take break, then you'll be on time. as much as I hate RM for a lot of things, this one isn't so easy to perfect. If you and your walk partner both want your break at different times and both want to take it back at the delivery office can you just bring more mail back at the end of the shift?

No I'm pretty certain your employer can stipulate when you have to take your break, if you tried that approach I'd guess they'd insist you take it before you go out on delivery.kazardaimenu wrote: ↑14 Apr 2024, 17:22If you and your walk partner both want your break at different times and both want to take it back at the delivery office can you just bring more mail back at the end of the shift?

Re: 1000 redundancies
It’s far from perfect. When I worked in London offices RoN was impossible to keep pace with — the route would take at least 90 minutes longer than RoN predicted and you would be “behind schedule”. Where I work now (a DO somewhere in the South East) it is the opposite: it is always possible to be ahead of schedule, “beating” the RoN route duration by upwards of an hour or more on a dense route.Barnacle wrote: ↑14 Apr 2024, 17:16You can’t make it work like that: by simply adding 20mins to your leaving time, because the whole timing is out. Re: 1000 redundancies
Unfortunately newbies (of which I’m one) are required to be present for 8hr 40 mins - 8 hours of working, 40 minutes as an enforced unpaid break. I’d rather forget about my break and just leave after eight hours but sadly it’s not an option.R5001 wrote: ↑14 Apr 2024, 16:58Not quite what you intend I'm sure, but you can just change your estimated leaving time 20 minutes later (Or whatever is appropriate), you'll be ahead until you take break, then you'll be on time. as much as I hate RM for a lot of things, this one isn't so easy to perfect. Re: 1000 redundancies
That might be a bit of local insanity then. At least for now, our newbies have just gone home after their contracted hours are done. If they take the break, their hours are extended the same amount, I.E 30 min break, 6 hours work and 6hrs30 on the clock.Smoothbackground wrote: ↑14 Apr 2024, 18:04Unfortunately newbies (of which I’m one) are required to be present for 8hr 40 mins - 8 hours of working, 40 minutes as an enforced unpaid break. It is really stupid imo. It sucks for the newbies in the present and in the long run, it's just going to mean the new contracts are prioritised for overtime, they simply cost less. which will mean us legacy contracts slowly go "f**k this I'm out" etc blah blah. I'm sure most understand the idea by now, but the 2 tier shite is terrible for everyone.
On the funnier side, it hasn't taken many of them too long to realise they get f**k all for overachieving, so they all drag their feet and chill where possible. If it's possible to do x in 5 hours but RON says 6, it'll take them 6.15, 95% of the time.

Re: 1000 redundancies
no, it works like that. I've tested it myself by pushing it back 15 mins so I can have a coffee and a piss. The traffic part is not live, it's historic. You might see it mention this when you start navigation form time to time, that "Traffic server" is unavailable. so it honestly has absolutely NO idea what is going on.Barnacle wrote: ↑14 Apr 2024, 17:16

with unknown 1 way systems you may be more correct though. but I can be sure traffic isn't really calculated.
even with historic averages, RON still seems to be a year out of date right now, long established (12+months) estates are still not mapped and you get instructions to park in a field half a mile away and walk.

And yes, agreed, the two-tier workforce is no good for morale either. We have a great many excellent longstanding staff at our place who must be retained as management really couldn’t do it without them — the right “skill mix” is vital.

When SISO is linked to pay, it'll be simply based on what time you scan in at and what time you scan out at. You might not be wrong, but you also might not be right. As it stands, SISO has provision for meal breaks "post-shift", and until it's communicated otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it unduly.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑14 Apr 2024, 20:26When SISO is linked to pay, it'll be simply based on what time you scan in at and what time you scan out at. It will likely be yet another item that should be across the board, but will actually be subject to local variations. There are four offices in my area of interest and each are enforcing or not enforcing this and that to suit themselves.R5001 wrote: ↑14 Apr 2024, 20:36You might not be wrong, but you also might not be right.
