Re: Later start exemption
Turned down, but not in writing. Is the wording exemption or exception though?

Re: Later start exemption
It's exemption. I won't find out mine until next week. I have a partner with disabilities and in my view, I have a reasonable justification for exemption. However, I expect to be treated with usual disrespect and be denied permission due to " the needs of the business "

Re: Later start exemption
What did people request? I asked to start a bit early and finish a bit early to do the afternoon school run. I haven't heard back but if turned down it'll be half my wages on childcare, if I can find it.

Re: Later start exemption
the problems with granting these earlier starts/finishes can also affect the other person if your on P&L, what if they aren't willing to adjust their new shifts to suit, can't have 2 finishing at different times, would they boot 1 or the other off a duty to match up with someone else?
it will open a new can of worms this

Re: Later start exemption
I've asked to finish earlier considering the later finishes coming in May but was fobbed off. In all honesty I can see some posties working through their meal relief to finish 40 minutes early. Whether this will be accepted by management in the long term probably depends on whether you've completed your duty or not and this is a big problem in our office because some duties are quite a bit longer than others, plus, when you're a shared van driver you can only go as fast as your partner goes.

Re: Later start exemption
If you apply for exception, then make out the worst possible scenario , you have exhausted all possible alternatives, no relatives nearby, children too young to be left alone , no after school clubs etc. Your partner starts later to take the kids to school for example and you have to pick them up , that’s how it works in this day and age,so RM can step up to the plate and compromise, they are a big enough organisation to cope , after all no one asked for these later start/finish times. It has to be a reasonable request I suppose, you can’t demand to finish two hours earlier than you do now for example, but maybe 30 minutes or so is not unreasonable.
I suspect they may end up with a lot of aggrieved posties on their hands with a lot to be aggrieved about.

Most of us did agree to them though, so shouldn't really be complaining.

Re: Later start exemption
Everyone I've spoken to has said they didn't agree with later finishes. Our picket line was rock solid and I often wonder if the deal was rigged and the Communication Managers Union are only trying to save face.

Re: Later start exemption
You speak a lot of sense, Pete, and I respect what you say, but the simple fact is that — similar to inferior new-starter Ts and Cs — almost 8 out of 10 posties did vote for these changes. The later start and finish times bit of the agreement is only a few pages into the agreement, so it was pretty high up on the agenda and a topic of much debate between the employer and staff side. Whether or not you were misled by the union in its attempts to “sell” the derisory deal to members is, of course, a point for debate!postslippete wrote: ↑20 Mar 2024, 05:47

Re: Later start exemption
Royal Mail know they may find themselves in real trouble altering the start and finish times of individuals /carers of who fall in the disability and equality category and probably will be the only ones who will have exemption .

Re: Later start exemption
Did all those moaning about the later start and finish times vote no to the deal ? Considering it was virtually a landslide yes vote , I’d guess the majority didn’t. I voted no and the new times don’t really affect me , a bit rich moaning now .
