Hi All,
Sorry old thread but just a quick question.

I've done my daily van checks and everything is fine with no new faults at the end of the shift.

Someone else then takes the same van out I used to do some overtime.

Do they need to do another van check before they leave the office?

Yes, they need to do another van check via the PDA. We often have this scenario at our office in the afternoons.

I thought this was the case really, but our office acting manager is telling peeps 'no' they don't need to.

Put it this way, if you dent a door and they don't check it, and then you report the dent the next day, who gets f****d for it? That manager is trying to save 5 minutes in a manner that could cost someone their whole job and also legally cause issues. Report it to someone above them.

For this reason (and others) I always take photos of the van before and after my period of using it just to cover myself.

What if you're unfortunate enough to have an accident and the police attend and find that the van's unroadworthy, who's going to take the rap for it, you or the person who checked it earlier in the day??

To be fair, the one in my pic, despite being 11 years old, is probably the tidiest of all our vans. In fact it looks so good it could feature in RM promo material! Ours are no better than at your place, I’m sure — dented, scraped and filthy, not to mention held together with gaffer tape or with sellotape holding the rear light cluster together.

Did they even ever work for RM? I think he/she should provide some proof that they were at some stage an RM employee!

Of our fleet of 80 vans I doubt there's one that isn't damaged or messy. If I reported it all on the PDA I'd literally do nothing else. I very rarely use anything but my own van, which I take home then do delivery plus collections. Bollox am I doing a check everytime as I know it's fine. I just do the first one then leave it til the end of the day and put the final miles in. On the odd occasion I drive a different van I check the tyres and bulbs.
