3 week rota - last minute changes

We have a 3 weekly rotation. A different two days off each week.

Contract states “changes to the weekly schedule must be given with reasonable notice” what’s classed as reasonable notice?

My scheduled day off this week was Sunday. It’s Mother’s Day, plus my mums 60th, so 3 weeks ago my siblings and I chipped in to take mum to a spa day, and afternoon tea. 10 of us in total. This has cost me and the wife close to £200.

Lo and behold, last Sunday, was told all staff that scheduled to have Sunday off, have to work now.

I did initially put my foot down and said I couldn’t because of the pre arranged plans but this was dismissed.

2 other members of staff have been given another day off in the week. However both my requested days off have been rejected. I asked for another day off the following week. Again , rejected.

See union rep - they should help even if your not in the union
Sounds like the other 2 are butt kissers or the manager doesn’t like you

Our Rep has been told the union does not assist non union members anymore.

It's to recoup the losses from all those that have left. Fair enough.

The most they can do is not pay you, just say you are not turning in for work as you have a prearrangement and the submit a grievance.

Ask your manager for the area managers contact details,it puts the fear of God into low level office managers

There's no timeframe set in law for shift changes.it just states reasonable notice must be given like RM contracts do. It is a bit harsh considering you'd already made plans and not good people management to then deny you the day off. The grievance or regional manager routes are probably the best options but you cannot really force the day off without breaking rules yourself and being open to action by management.

If your official day off is Sunday, your entitled to that day.
