Parcels are going up at the same rate. Are they trying to price those out of existence? The smallest special delivery is increasing over a quid. On the rare occasion I would need to send a letter, a 10p increase isn’t going to stop me, but paying an extra pound to send a parcel might make me look elsewhere.
Well, these are the First Class Postage (standard parcel) Rates for sending parcels in 2020
Obviously, sending items via Tracked parcels cost more and probably another reason why they are so keen to get those doorstep scans, but since 2020 the price of stamps has nearly doubled....
I get what you are saying about the extra 10p increase and they will probably view what other European countries are charging for sending letters. But the business has been focussed on parcels for some time and its obvious to me that any increases are likely to be relatively modest and reflect the growing competition in this area. Its probably why for Special Deliveries, they are offering Special Delivery Timed and Special Delivery Untimed (but a next day service?).
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
Operating costs continue to increase and the company needs to make money. How else are they going to do this without raising prices?
Using that logic why not just put it up to £5 a letter?
There would be a public outcry if they did that especially as the company is consistently failing on its USO targets!! They would need to up their game and recruit more staff on deliveries to ensure that they actually deliver on their promise and they are clearly not prepared to do that. What they want to do is keep nudging up the price of postage, wherever they can, keeping the minimum levels of staffing and delivering letters whenever possible.

I don't know which scans were getting missed a lot in deliveries but RM moved the foreign specials back to going via SD lockers because it was costing them a load of money due to the missed scans. Probably as a result of paying compensation to the foreign postal company for failing to do all the scans
That’s the foreign tracked with 2D barcodes that are easily missed most of the time and no briefing on which items they want us to scan.
All of them.
Putting them back to be treat as specials is just silly and creating unnecessary work it's not difficult to comprehend that if something has a barcode on it's a distinct possibility that it should be scanned.
Everyone missing the real reason they are pitting up stamps
Its to subsidise DSA
How much are the big companies ond our so called competition mail prices going up
They have went down due to the deffering option over 5 dsys pn the css machines
RM should call their bluff and withdraw dsa
We are a private company after all
What would they lose if they want rid of letters do it
DSA is the elephant in thr room
The bastards are all in it together
If they had to pay a proper rate our business would be thriving
All the other companies were given licences to eventually do their own final mile delivery
Its all been a con to get mail sorted outside mail centres on the cheap by our executives

Don't think DSA can be axed without a change in the law

While Ofcom restricts the prices at which Royal Mail sell downstream access to third party companies, RM did put up their prices for access mail in October last year using their "losses" as justification for it.
Business mail letters increase by 13.6%
Large letters increase by 10%
Advertising Mail letters increase by 10.7%
Advertising Mail large letters increase by 10%
Ever since Royal Mail lost its monopoly on letters and downstream access mail was introduced; it makes no business sense for the company to try and grow letter traffic when these DSA companies are leeching from us and have no restrictions to actually deliver any letters, like we have with the Universal Service Obligation.
