Parcels v Letters
With RM admitting that it is prioritizing parcels over letters, resulting in hospital appointments being missed,ect..the time has come for the Boards of Royal Mail and Parcelforce,to get together and merge both companies into one.
Parcelforce is a subsidiary of Royal Mail and has the same network to reach all points of the United Kingdom,so it makes sense to utilise the strengths of both networks to deliver letters and parcels together..at the same time, whilst reducing costs to the business.
Failing that,,let Parcelforce handle ALL parcels posted into both networks and reduce Royal Mail down to a sustainable size to handle the shrinking letter market.

Re: Parcels v Letters
PF has no way got the capacity to handle all the parcels that go through the RM network in addition to all those that already go through their own network

Re: Parcels v Letters
There is a Parcelforce management team working on a merger at this very moment with Parcelforce rural areas being given to royal mail and in return royal mail parcels from built up areas coming to Parcelforce ,cantonkid1955 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2024, 07:59With RM admitting that it is prioritizing parcels over letters, resulting in hospital appointments being missed,ect..the time has come for the Boards of Royal Mail and Parcelforce,to get together and merge both companies into one.

Gonna need a bigger van then for some of the 'parcels' I've seen our PF drivers lumping out the back of their vans in our rural areas - tractor parts, building materials, fencing materials, multiple animal feed sacks and the like.......77SAMPOST77 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2024, 10:01There is a Parcelforce management team working on a merger at this very moment with Parcelforce rural areas being given to royal mail and in return royal mail parcels from built up areas coming to Parcelforce ,cantonkid1955 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2024, 07:59With RM admitting that it is prioritizing parcels over letters, resulting in hospital appointments being missed,ect..the time has come for the Boards of Royal Mail and Parcelforce,to get together and merge both companies into one.

Re: Parcels v Letters
We get a LOT of 30+kg packets (sorry, I mean "oversized tracked") on our rurals already, last week I had a side panel door for a van and a 35kg Hessian sack labelled "feed" on the same day and managers were pretending that it's a normal amount and I "should have no problem delivering them as we've taught you to lift with your knees."yellowbelly wrote: ↑01 Mar 2024, 16:50Gonna need a bigger van then for some of the 'parcels' I've seen our PF drivers lumping out the back of their vans in our rural areas - tractor parts, building materials, fencing materials, multiple animal feed sacks and the like.......

Refuse to take any heavy parcels out, that’s what I’ve done recently. We don’t have the equipment to deliver them.Kenfandango wrote: ↑01 Mar 2024, 18:22We get a LOT of 30+kg packets (sorry, I mean "oversized tracked") on our rurals already, last week I had a side panel door for a van and a 35kg Hessian sack labelled "feed" on the same day and managers were pretending that it's a normal amount and I "should have no problem delivering them as we've taught you to lift with your knees."yellowbelly wrote: ↑01 Mar 2024, 16:50Gonna need a bigger van then for some of the 'parcels' I've seen our PF drivers lumping out the back of their vans in our rural areas - tractor parts, building materials, fencing materials, multiple animal feed sacks and the like.......

The current court case could determine the future viability of Parcelforce.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

the letter market is not shrinking from where I am standing.cantonkid1955 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2024, 07:59let Parcelforce handle ALL parcels posted into both networks and reduce Royal Mail down to a sustainable size to handle the shrinking letter market.
+ more and more homes are being built, so rounds only get bigger, not smaller.
I look at what is due to be built in my town over the coming years and it amounts to about an extra 1,500 homes, that's 3 new rounds.
The round I am on needed to be reduced in size not increased in size in the recent revisions.

There's still clearly less letters to deliver.norris9 wrote: ↑02 Mar 2024, 21:41the letter market is not shrinking from where I am standing.cantonkid1955 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2024, 07:59let Parcelforce handle ALL parcels posted into both networks and reduce Royal Mail down to a sustainable size to handle the shrinking letter market.

Re: Parcels v Letters
A lot less. The batch sizes on our CSS machines are way smaller than they used to be, a very noticeable drop over the last year or so. Many nights now we could probably stand a machine down for wave 1.TopperGas wrote: ↑02 Mar 2024, 22:56There's still clearly less letters to deliver.norris9 wrote: ↑02 Mar 2024, 21:41the letter market is not shrinking from where I am standing.cantonkid1955 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2024, 07:59let Parcelforce handle ALL parcels posted into both networks and reduce Royal Mail down to a sustainable size to handle the shrinking letter market.

But your still walking from a-z
And if memory serves their old mantra when mobbed was it doesnt take any longer to deliver 10 items to every door than one
Which also implies it doesnt take any shorter

Re: Parcels v Letters
That's what the DTS system is in theory meant to sort out. The basic idea with the system, when the mech gets run the system creates a list of all DPs that have got an item due for delivery. When a batch gets run on a CSS, for any 2C mail in that batch it checks it against the list of DPs due a 1C item. If that DP isn't on the list then that 2C item gets "deferred" to the next night. Any item can only be "deferred" for a maximum of 5 days, on the fifth day it gets automatically released.
If the DTS system fails or gets switch off nationally then when a batch is run any deferred items get automatically released and nothing gets "deferred". A week ago on the Thursday the DTS system failed nationally and Thursday just gone the DTS system got switched off nationally (the CSS machines grabbed the lists but the lists were empty). Apparently it was done to help deliveries but I can't see how, as it just dumps onto some walks 3 to 4 trays of sequenced. If they'd left the DTS turned on Thursday just gone then you'd had that same mail spread out (unless some was a bulk posting that hits the 5 day limit).
There are a few MCs that don't currently do DTS on all batches, that'll be down to machine capacity as DTS batches take a little longer to run. No DTS batch can be run before midnight as the CSS machines have to wait for the system to process the data and send them the lists of DPs that have got a 1C item.
In the long term as more packets get sorted by machine, it'll get expanded to also cover packets as well.
