Why would he when he no longer works for the company, it seemed a bit odd Panorama writing to him.

Rico Back was on - the CEO before him so why not?

Simon is most likely still getting bonuses etc unlike Rico? Although not sure how he's got the nerve to criticise RM when he just walked out.

Absolutely, it's all about saving money on staff which is all the more surprising why some units are still managing to clear every day. Surely the offices which are managing well will be earmarked for some cost savings in the future?

Perhaps it's also down to poor management, the York train nonsense, why leave one estate, or even just a road, in Winsford undelivered for weeks when it could most likely be delivered on alternative days?

Who knows perhaps RM has sufficient staff to deliver mail fairly regularly, if it can't do it daily, at most DO's but don't have the managers able to manage it?

I'm surprised RM sent out Jenny Hall to face the cameras, as she's never come across to me as RM's leader. I'd put money on RM now announcing she's departing in a month or two.

I doubt it's down to just one postie leaving mail on the frame, regardless if part of a duty hasn't gone out for even a couple of days then a manager should notice, unless they just sit in their office all day drinking coffee!

That’s not a reason to not deliver for weeks at a time. Why are managers allowing mail to sit undelivered for weeks? There’s no excuse.

It is likely that this duty has been lapsed and no one will touch it if it's got more than 3 days worth of mail. What do you want me to do boss? Prioritise these letters or drive round delivering all the Tracked parcels instead? The managers will obviously notice the build up of mail but if they are wanting more staff in and the senior boss says NO, what else are they supposed to do other than delivering it themselves when there is a spare van available after we have finished our shifts.

Happened with one of our duties last year, duty holder came in one morning to find his walk had become a "bolt on" duty and was going to be split and shared between 6 others, was moved elsewhere then watched as the mail built up around his old frame for 3 weeks before they actually decided to put it on the end of the others, after trying to get 2 new starts to clear the 3 weeks mail in 2 days

As Royal Mail have not appointed a new CEO yet I suppose someone had to face the cameras. As Simon Thompson failed to respond to the programmes invitation to comment they must have thought Rico Back was a good substitute.

USO needs changing ASAP!

USO needs adhering to. There can be no excuses as to why RM can't manage to do now what they could for over 100 years.

No company is going to deliberately take a financial hit when it isn’t being forced to adhere to the rules. It is all about the money now.

Even the Union has come round finally to the inevitable... The USO needs modernising like everything else. So Royal Mail is operating just like it did 100 years ago - give over; be real!

My thoughts are that at some stage since privatisation RM decided firstly- try to break the unions stranglehold over their workforce so they could do as they see fit, secondly- get rid of the USO and its stranglehold on them making as much money as humanly possible.
Maybe not quite in those simple terms but i would imagine something similar, and a lot of the things that have happened during and since the pandemic have just allowed them to accelerate everything.
It's obvious that criticism doesn't bother them or government intervention scare them, so i am not sure where anyone goes with anything in a attempt to control this out of control company.
People think this is the modern way to run a company, i hate to tell you but the victorians did this a few hundred years earlier and calling it the "Gig" economy doesn't disguise what it is, if people accept it that's up to them but judging how long new starts are lasting they aren't accepting it.

Could not agree more, nothing will change, it will accelerate into what, I have no idea.
If the Gov are happy for millions of litres of sewerage to enter our waters, energy costs to rocket & railways to become the most expensive in Europe what are RM, nothing!
As for Ofcom, what a joke, make RM look organised!

Alistair Cochrane is the new Chief Operations Officer, which seems the most senior managerial role at present in RM.
