DPR - Start and Finish times changing.

Hopefully this is the correct forum....

I'm DPR.

We got 28 days notice our finish time was moving from 1900 to 1930, now it's rumoured it'll move again to 2000. This also affects our start times

Can they do this?

On top of working 6 out of 7 Sundays (1000 - 1800) and 5 out of 7 Saturdays, with one Saturday and Sunday together in that, then it's absolutely ruining any work - life balance, my kid is growing up and I very rarely see him despite being in the same house!

Speak to your managers and explain the situation, pointing out that you already work the most antisocial days in the week (Sat and Sun), and that’s without this latest change. If you are regularly also working one of your rest days, which it seems you are, they will hopefully be keen to keep you happy and motivated and will find some solution, e.g. you being able to come in earlier on some of your work days to scan up for other drivers or helping with parcel sortation.

Its not going to get any better. Our DPR guys have a finish time of 2100 mon - Sat with 1900 on sundays

If it's a DPR isn't it going to be tracked so surely they are expecting it?

It amazes me how computer literate people can be ordering all this stuff off t'interweb but then become complete dummies
tracking the progress of the item and making arrangements for receiving the item, or arranging a redelivery when they're going to be in instead of letting us shlep up their driveway on delivery day two when we know very well that they're not going to be in AGAIN!

While I don’t want to be unsympathetic I would have to ask when you agreed to a DPR job on a 7pm finish time at a time the business was threatening to move all finish times by up to 90 minutes then what did you expect?

Fair enough on the high proportion of Sat/Sun (I would expect that to be part rotational at least myself)

What were you promised on signup?

You're spot on Mate! I've had customers confess to me, as they sign for parcels that they'd ordered while pissed, that they have no idea what they've ordered.

I'll normally be picking them up again the next day as a customer collect RTS, or from the Local Post Office. Drums up business I suppose?

Given it's the OP's first post he's probably a fairly new starter who possibly didn't know anything about the change of hours, I doubt he was told anything at his interview!

From my experience not many customers want us knocking once it goes dark, particularly in the winter. After all if it gives to an hour or so before bedtime I sense the customer can wait until the following day for it to be delivered.

A lot of the "tracked" from other companies (and I mean Amazon) don't give a date if it's handed to RM, they just get a vague, 4 day window in which a packet may show up from a random courier. I've had Sunday packet days where 60+ packets are "prime" orders but the customer has no idea when it's arriving or by whom.
On topic, a significant chunk of our DPR/afternoon staff have jacked it in recently due to the hour change despite the morning staff being kept in the dark about it

Whenever I order stuff from Amazon when the item dispatches it tells me which courier they used and what day it's due. Depending on the courier they used (normally their own), once the item goes out for delivery I get a 2hr time slot which gets updated as needed.

If a lot of your DPR staff have quit then it's only going to be a matter of time before the oversized gets dumped back onto the walks
