Re: Big increase in recruitment
Was breaking the union a failure? From a Royal Mail point of view I would say it was his single biggest achievement! Hence his rewards.

Re: Big increase in recruitment
We had quite a lot of agency as we normally do over Xmas. A few have now been taken on permanently by RM but some don't even have a driving licence. Recruitment in my area is a struggle but I know people that haven't applied because of the must have a full driving licence requirement and now we have new staff that can't drive, very unfair

It's what this country has produced since Blair sent everyone to University. Absolutely clueless. People at the top only interested in the weather and gender politics. No one under the age of 25 wants to spend the next 50 years grind to live in an overpriced bedsit. 5 years service will be a huge Milestone in the future.Philbag70 wrote: ↑13 Feb 2024, 15:29Genuine question. With such a ridiculous, nonsensical, destructive attitude towards business.....how do the people in charge become wealthy and powerful in the first place? All I can see is illogical, irrational, unprofessional decisions made by arrogant, wasteful, clueless charlatans.kazardaimenu wrote: ↑13 Feb 2024, 15:15No pts getting made up to full time yet even tho we are short staffed and the duties are fat. Crazy policies.

Re: Big increase in recruitment
Bankruptcy due trying to meet the current USO is a highly likely prospect though, no need for accusations of conspiracies or cynical thinking to arrive at that conclusion, just common sense.hazzeem025 wrote: ↑13 Feb 2024, 17:14Simple really. They're taking on new staff because OFCOM have told them to improve the service. In 6 months they go back to OFCOM and say we're nearly bankrupt because of trying to fulfill the USO. OFCOM says oooh well let's reduce the USO asap to 5 days. Yes I'm cynical![]()

True but their findings and recommendations can go a long way toward making it happen, which obviously anyone with an ounce of common sense can see does need to happen.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑13 Feb 2024, 18:52Except reducing the USO isn't up to Ofcom.hazzeem025 wrote: ↑13 Feb 2024, 17:14Simple really. Re: Big increase in recruitment
The government will bankrupt Royal Mail by making them deliver mail 6 days a week.
Dave Ward said a decision on the USO won't be made until well into 2025.
Anyway - based on replies here.... there has been no sudden recruitment drive nationwide since January. Offices are still understaffed or were staffed to a good standard before January.

Re: Big increase in recruitment
Why would the government deliberately do that?
The last thing the government want is to have to take on the responsibility for a National postal service.
Or are you saying the government are simply too stupid to grasp the consequences of failing to adjust the USO? (Quite possibly the case)

Not sure if this will work (it's a 3MB file) but it's possible to pull all of the jobs from https://jobs.royalmailgroup.com/go/Post ... g/4480301/ (I just did the delivery/postie jobs), and map them across the country (see below).
It's similar to the main page map (https://jobs.royalmailgroup.com/) but a bit more detailed on exactly which DO postcode is advertising. Maybe you can zoom in and see what's available around you.
Anyone fancy a transfer to Lerwick, Shetland?

Re: Big increase in recruitment
The next General Election is due by the 28th January next year. I don't think there'll be any agreement by the government on reducing the USO before a General Election and there's no guarantee that whoever wins the General Election will even agree to a reduction in the USO anyway.norris9 wrote: ↑14 Feb 2024, 07:41The government will bankrupt Royal Mail by making them deliver mail 6 days a week.

Re: Big increase in recruitment
Had a scroll through and there's a wide variety on offer isn't there, some full time, some offering a £1500 welcome bonus presumably offices that are struggling to recruit but the real shitty end of the stick is advertising 25 hours over 5 days, wtf, even if you turned up and got straight in the van out on delivery you couldn't finish in time.Basildon Bond wrote: ↑14 Feb 2024, 13:04Not sure if this will work (it's a 3MB file) but it's possible to pull all of the jobs from https://jobs.royalmailgroup.com/go/Post ... g/4480301/ (I just did the delivery/postie jobs), and map them across the country (see below).

Re: Big increase in recruitment
The government know that the public know, that RM are not in any danger of bankruptcy due to delivering mail. Everyone knows a postie, everyone saw the select committee hearing, everyone knows that the failings are deliberate, and not to save the poor, struggling RM from collapse but to leech out a bit more money off our efforts and at their expense. The government should never have offered the postal service up as a cash cow to this little gang of con artists now in control of it but since they have, they know the least everybody expects them to do is tell Royal Mail, "FFS, deliver the mail".Mike G wrote: ↑14 Feb 2024, 09:24Why would the government deliberately do that?

Anyone with with half a brain can see the 6 day USO is an utterly pointless anachronism... unnecessary, costly and hugely inefficient to implement.
The only reason the self serving leaches that are the CWU want it to remain in place is because they're worried about their money for nothing gravy train from union subs being reduced as a result of a more streamlined business that would come about through a reduction in the USO, the CWU want RM to remain a bloated, inefficient company forced to retain outdated working practices all in order to meet the requirements of an increasingly pointless and irrelevant service commitment.
It's a bit like saying BT should still be forced to retain the infrastructure and network and staffing levels to have a working telephone box on every single street corner.
