If anyone could genuinely say that they knew which fund would outperform the others over the next 5, 10 or 20 years then they would be pretty stupid to be wasting their time working as a postman when they could be concentrating on becoming a multi-millionaire.silver_fox wrote: Has anyone explored this and found a better fund selection rather than the default blended equity? Or do you see the fund choice as less important than the amount you pay in?
As far as I'm concerned, for your average investor the best approach is to spread your risk across a broad range of investments. Invest as much as you can reasonably afford and then let the years take care of increasing the money invested.
It's a fools game to constantly try to move money between different markets trying to predict which market is about to surge and which is going to fall. It's time in the market that yields the best returns, not market timing.

I'm not actually in the RMDCP, although I have had AVC's via the RMPP and some of the available funds are similar.silver_fox wrote:Thanks Robert, out of interest which funds do you invest in? I've still got 20+ years to retirement so happy with risk.
As I said in my previous post, you need to consider your own circumstances, as what's right for one isn't necessarily right for someone else. I'm also older than you by the sound of it, which means I'm slowly 'lifestyling' my holdings and moving away from the riskier options anyway.
I would also agree with Schiff's 'time in the market' comments, above.
There was someone on here just after the Covid market crash who changed their fund choices from Sharia(I think) to cash 2 or 3 times in as many weeks and based on their posts on this board, probably missed out on one of the best post crash days as a result.

Re: RMDCP
Yes, was paying 30% & had to drop to 28% last pay rise as it dropped me out of the PSE.
I hadn't realised at the time & it was the change in my wages that brought it to my attention. Think I'm ok this time round. I believe we get 2% in April? Anyone confirm this & the date that comes in?
