The more you do the more they expect from you...bare minimum at all times is my motto just enough to keep you in the job.
It's called " performance punishment ".
It's far easier for a manager to bully, intimidate, harass an easy going, compliant, flexible worker than It's is to have a go at the lazy, argumentative, antagonistic chancers.
Very few employers are perfect, but some still treat their staff with respect and value their input thus gaining loyalty and a more productive employee.
Royal Mail is corrupt from the top down. They're so arrogantly blinkered that they think the only way is to do what they like and f#ck everyone else.
I was compliant and flexible when i first started but it didn't take me long to work out you only get walked all over with that attitude so quickly changed my way of thinking.
Sadly, I was naive and it took me about 3 years to wake up. Like many of us, RM have lied to me, bullied me, and cheated me. The trust is gone, never to return.
I now only do what I have to, to earn my money and no more.
It's a dreadful attitude to have but RM have forced my hand

Or just treat it as a decently paid job like any other. Go in, work your hours and go home and forget about it.
Honestly, a job in delivery is far from a "decently paid job like any other"

Seems like a pretty delusional statement from a "20+ year veteran" tbh.

Each to their own and good luck for the future :thumbup
Not at all. Have a look around you at employment opportunities for unskilled labour then get back to me. Yes, we are largely losing every benefit of the job that we all signed up to, but there is nothing out there paying as well for such a comparatively stress-free easy job.
It maybe stress free in your part of reality. Unfortunately for the majority of OPG's that statement is far from reality for a 13 odds quid an hour job. Sorry to break it to you
Really hacks me off when I hear people use the words 'unskilled labour' to beat others down with in terms of reward for the work they do. Why should unskilled as you put it necessarily equal crap pay? And as for a stress free job, wow, your office must be in some sort of parallel universe to the rest of us.
Unfortunately that's the way the UK works, get yourself a degree and whilst you maybe a lazy useless worker you'll still get paid more than somebody with no qualifications/skills who works hard and are good at their job.

It should hack you off, but it is reality I’m afraid. Go and have a look at the job market right now, and as I said before, find me a comparative job to ours that pays such decent money. Even my new groupie couldn’t manage that request. That said, you might find it easier to find other work paying as well as the shitty new contracts, but I’m betting most of us aren’t on those.

It's not an unskilled job. You need a very specific and rare skillset to do it. That's why so many people CAN'T do it, and leave a week after starting.

Most of us know this, but I’m afraid it’s classed as unskilled, in this nasty world of ours.

It depends if you class being able to read and walk skills I guess. Not everybody can do it for sure, just like not everyone can hack working in a supermarket, but pretending you need a specific skill to do it is nonsense.

It's called reality, and stems from the more effort = more reward way of thinking, which is then allied to the "how long would it take/how hard would it be to train your replacement if you walked out" scenario.
It's why McD's burger flippers are paid less than a brickie.

I think you need to stop assuming that everyone in delivery's working day is similar and stress free as yours is Lou ( I also have it pretty good )

The working day can be entirely different from office to office, manager to manager, walk to walk, colleagues to colleagues, van partner to van partner so I think its not fair for you to make these comments all the time because YOU are happy
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

I’m presuming you quoted the wrong post as I make no mention of how happy I am or otherwise in the one you quoted. I am talking pay and comparative jobs. I have no doubt other people have more stressful days than I do, but it is a mindset in a lot of cases. We have people grumbling and moaning in our office too, despite it being well run. It is how you approach the job as well.

You said it was a comparatively stress free and easy job

One would assume that you are talking about YOUR experience of the job so it might be less stressful and easier for YOU to do this job compared to other jobs but not the case for others in delivery.

I know you are happy in the job, youve said so before. I am too. But I dont tell everyone else they should be despite having no idea of what they experience day to day or how their work environment is.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

"unofficially" doesn't really mean anything until it's officially confirmed. One hour to just 19 mins seems a big jump to me.

We already start at 7 anyway so we’re already quite late and we are quite close to the mail centre to so I would say it’s probably accurate. One of the neighbouring offices is apparently 90 minutes.

I hope its 19 minutes cos id grab that in a heartbeat. Look before you leap as 19 sounds very similar to 90

RM have conditioned us & treated us that bad that i'm thinking 19 minute later is a good start time.  In reality they've begrudgingly gave us poorer terms & conditions for well below inflation "pay rise" and starting good fews hours later than when i first starting many moons ago.

I still enjoy the job, do o/t, have different "opinions" of whats achievable with managers etc.
