They might get better results if they had more manageable duties, no van shares and a one tier workforce but that would cost the shareholders a few pounds so they won’t change these things.

Or just treat it as a decently paid job like any other. Go in, work your hours and go home and forget about it.
Honestly, a job in delivery is far from a "decently paid job like any other"

Seems like a pretty delusional statement from a "20+ year veteran" tbh.

Each to their own and good luck for the future :thumbup

They do tend to go after the people who will on occasion make an effort or do a bit of ot. The lazy f*cks and the ot kings get an easy ride :d'oh!
This is the RMs culture. Has been since they floated on the stock market. Breathe it in deeply. The beatings will continue until morale has improved remember. :Boo hoo!

The more you do the more they expect from you...bare minimum at all times is my motto just enough to keep you in the job.
It's called " performance punishment ".
It's far easier for a manager to bully, intimidate, harass an easy going, compliant, flexible worker than It's is to have a go at the lazy, argumentative, antagonistic chancers.
Very few employers are perfect, but some still treat their staff with respect and value their input thus gaining loyalty and a more productive employee.
Royal Mail is corrupt from the top down. They're so arrogantly blinkered that they think the only way is to do what they like and f#ck everyone else.

Genuinely scary stuff for RM employees. Profit is king now, posties are just meat for the grinder these days. It's sad as f*ck but there's never been a better time to get a new job.

Wouldn't surprise me if the same were to hold true for lower management these days (COM/MCM and lower)

Good! Taking a kick in every week on a conference call, from some bellend who doesn't know their arse from their elbow for almost 50K a year is unacceptable.

Not at all. Have a look around you at employment opportunities for unskilled labour then get back to me. Yes, we are largely losing every benefit of the job that we all signed up to, but there is nothing out there paying as well for such a comparatively stress-free easy job.

It maybe stress free in your part of reality. Unfortunately for the majority of OPG's that statement is far from reality for a 13 odds quid an hour job. Sorry to break it to you

Full timers actually work just under 34 hours a week, when you take into account paid breaks. So it works out at over £15.50 an hour. £27.5k a year for just under 34 hours a week is decent money for an unskilled job, I can’t find another one that pays as well.

Thank you, I've tried pointing that out at least twice and each time got comments saying you can't count paid breaks and delivery supplement but as far as I'm concerned my hourly rate is the amount I get paid divided by the amount of hours I have to work to get it.

Of course as soon as overtime over 37 hours comes into it then that figure gets watered down.

Yes, some will try to lower the rate so it appears worse than it actually is, usually the ones who insist how everything about the job is bad. Some of it can be, but not all of it is. I’m happy with my 4 days work and 3 days rest a week.

Really hacks me off when I hear people use the words 'unskilled labour' to beat others down with in terms of reward for the work they do. Why should unskilled as you put it necessarily equal crap pay? And as for a stress free job, wow, your office must be in some sort of parallel universe to the rest of us.
