Obstructing Royal Mail posties an offence
Having watched the Horizon PO Inquiry which for me has been fascinating - I have only just realised that it is an offence under the Postal Services Act 2000 s.88 to obstruct a postie if engaged on Universal Service USO duties.
Currently listening to Tony Marsh ex head of PO security.

What about the POIS ?
Alan Bates wouldn't let them in his Sub Office counter and tried to intimidate him.
I'm also sure they can't search your house and car without your consent if you're Postie as well.

Why would they want to search your house or car unless they think you are thieving as a postie.

For the same reasons as the Horizon scandal. Just because they think you are a thief does not mean you are, and it does not mean evidence can not be manufactured against you. Always refuse the IB, let the local plod search, and get a lawyer involved.
Why would they prosecute hundreds of postamster who had not stolen any money when it was their software fault?

2 investigators quoted as saying can you prove you DIDNT steal the money. Sorry but the whole unit sounds incompetent. Tony Marsh has this breezy optimism which has grated on the last solicitor

Re: Obstructing Royal Mail posties an offence
Pretty much what I thought, I couldn't believe how many posties simply give permission for them to search their house and car, I believed some of them were innocent and have been convinced that the POIS have the right to search house and car, it won't suprise me if evidence was planted because the manager wanted rid of them and the POIS can claim a scalp.TrueBlueTerrier wrote: ↑20 Jan 2024, 08:30For the same reasons as the Horizon scandal. There is no oversight to prevent abuse of process.
Had I been one of them I would have refused permission full stop, I'm very much of the mould of Alan Bates, the world need more Alan Bates.

Of course you can refuse IB searches or interviews they have no additional powers to anyone else in the street.
Some SPMs pushed back and told Post Office investigators to p*ss off I haven’t done it. Sold the business and the loss was never recoverable by PO. Unfortunately some mindsets meant people were bullied and harassed.
PO staff believed their own hype over the IB branch.
The officers in confidence role which Tony Marsh referred to sounds very sinister but no doubt was a throwback to 1800s

I'm sure a lot of us are unaware of our Legal Protections?
It's normally only criminals that are really clued up on their Legal Rights, after all why would the majority of Innoncent People bother to look into them?
Apparently the same goes for other Investigation Services. My friend was being "Investigated" by Benefit Fraud Investigators, after a Road Traffic Accident.
On Legal Advice from a Solicitor he ignored their regular letters to attend interviews, and comment, and eventually the problem went away. He recieved a letter the size of a telephone directory and on the back page there was a small statement saying something like, "This case has been investigated and no further steps are to be taken" No apology or explanation!
When he told his Solicitor he thought he had to go along with all their requests, as that was the right thing to do, he said, "That's because your Fat, Fit and Forty ... do you think all these spotty teenagers bother turning up for interviews or give comments"?

I work for Relay and are told, if stopped by Police, tell them to follow you to the nearest D/O.

In the crewbus days when no-one wore a seatbelt, drivers always claimed the police could not stop the van in transit. If they wanted to peer in the windows it would have to be back at the unit, by which time everyone would have their seatbelt on. It always sounded like an old wive's tale excusing irresponsible behaviour.Maroondevo52 wrote: ↑04 Feb 2024, 19:50I work for Relay and are told, if stopped by Police, tell them to follow you to the nearest D/O.

You cannot stop IB coming into your home, searching your locker if they have a warrant and are accompanied by police, which they are a lot of the time. They have more powers than the average joe on the street. I'm fact they have quite a few powers. You do need them because they are always thieving bastards in every job, but the ones that always got to me were the birthday card openers. We had one in G20 office who was a senior man and everyone likedfmrPOSTIE wrote: ↑21 Jan 2024, 08:53Of course you can refuse IB searches or interviews they have no additional powers to anyone else in the street.

The officers in confidence role which Tony Marsh referred to sounds very sinister but no doubt was a throwback to 1800shim. The IB walked in during ips and walked him out, never to be seen again.
Which kinda proved my point.
If it's just them on their own you can refuse entry, there's nothing they can do about it and that goes for your car, it buys you time to think, never incriminate yourself, I wouldn't put it past the IB to plant evidence if they felt the end justified the means, considering the Post Office scandals, falsifying evidence and non disclosure of evidence proving innocence, I would absolutely keep them out and film any encounter with them to cover yourself.

Re: Obstructing Royal Mail posties an offence
I was always told if you had a choice let IB do a quick search of your house otherwise they'll come back with a police search warrant and they'll go through everything. I very much doubt the IB actually exist nowadays as such. They were huge 25 years ago. Modern tracking and surveillance will no doubt catch anyone today. Not like the old days when they sat behind dark glass and you knew they were there as you could see the light of their cigarettes and fivers were flying out of " torn " envelopes all over the place
cat and mouse , those were the days ....
