Conspiracy theory: Lots of staff on the old contracts leave the business. When enough have gone, RM revert back to sensible start/finish times and manageable deliveries to attract new staff but on the new contracts (no paid breaks, Sunday working etc).

As more and more on old contracts leave, there's going to come a point where it'll be cheap enough for RM to force everyone onto the new contracts, when employment tribunal costs are factored in

It wouldn't surprise me if this is their end goal. They may have lower employment costs, but those contracts will mean a much higher turnover of staff. I just wonder how much that costs them in recruitment, training, uniform etc.

If I'm lucky enough to be in an office with a 15 mins later start, I'll miss school pick up by 10 mins at a cost of £70 a week for after school club, ludicrous situation.

Yeah I reckon it's got to be more otherwise they wouldn't be making such a big thing about it, having said that I'm surprised they're not saying something silly like 21/2 hours so the CWU can claim a false victory for getting it down to 11/2.

I read an interesting article explaining why high staff turnover was a key principle in Amazon's business strategy ie deliberate in nature.
Cannot remember all the reasons behind it but i bet RM are factoring high staff turnover as part of their medium/long term business plan.

The P&O Ratio. I had the exact same thought a few days ago.

That said, even after a potential exodus this year over changed hours I can't see the numbers falling enough in under five years to allow the company try it on. If trends continue (turnover, staffing levels, economic outlook, etc) I would expect the threshold to be much less than 20% (that's still potentially over ten thousand) and to be crossed after 2030. These are simply educated guesses, we'll just have to wait for another data breach to put the internal document plotting this (which surely exists) out in the open.

Can see this happening to make the job more unattractive so people will leave. 5 nights with a midnight start doesn't sound too great lol. There could easily be a case for 4 night and 3 night duties, especially as we deliver 7 days a week now, but can't see Royal Mail looking at making our work/life balance any better.

After the last agreement was signed we lost a lot of senior workers, that has slowed down now, the ones that are leaving are the guys on new contracts, they see the job as a stepping stone to other jobs rather than any longevity with RM, as soon as they hear how poorer their T&C’s are they look to get out, with what it costs us to recruit and train these workers it can’t be sustained surely..

Is that 100% officially confirmed for your MC?

Assuming RM make the dispatches later by the same amount then I reckon it'll be 2hrs later for DOs as you're going to have to factor in traffic, more so for the more distant from the MC DOs
