NHS letters through the SD Locker

Yes they are brought into the locker to get put in with the specials. A couple of York's, full of bundles of NHS letters from the machines. My point is they are going to be treated like a special when they get to the DO's. I assumed they all used to be left when the walks were lapsed.

No, they weren't during the pandemic. They came in then awaited their turn with the other trays of abandoned mail.

In our DO the sorting in the SD locker is so slow and inaccurate that the NHS letters are going to be done on dedicated frames on the IPS from tomorrow.

Are the 'opg' locker duty holders really that bad at sorting?

Thats a weird way to do it. At my office 1 person from each section is taken from IPS to sort the specials.

Then the locker allocate them and pass them to the duties. Not a perfect system but it does work most of the time.

Well if you don't mind me saying your system seems weird, and a potential security breach.
Sd's go straight to the locker. Only once issued have we any responsibility.

Out of all the crap that's surfaced recently one of the better options/ideas I think is to have a "premium" service for stuff that folk actually want to receive quickly, hell we've already got it, tracked 24, most of everything else could be the new std service, by ditching 1st/2nd class.

We should in theory already have that , it’s called 1st and 2nd class but obviously Royal Mail is such a mess it can’t provide that service.

It's my understanding that 1st and 2nd class were introduced in the 60s because delivery targets couldn't be met when everything was effectively first class. Now every letter is effectively Mailsort unless it transits the locker.

Is that a national directive? SD Locker idea been scrapped?
We are still doing it at our MC started last wed.

Why don't a manager get a wilful delay on there record like they tried with us.And stop prioritising tracked .clear office like they use to,.maybe not they've made so many cut backs and made the walks so big .all from behind there desks.

That's how we did it last time and how we do it now. I still see some NHS appointment letters in the CSS batches no idea if they are meant to be there or if they should have been extracted by the iLSM.

They don’t need a plan ‘B’ just deliver on plan ‘A’ the walks are all manageable and staffing levels ensure all mail is delivered every day.

Agree 100%.. It seems they put anything they are concerned about through the locker to make up for failings elsewhere. Foreign mail is put through the locker as its not getting s a scan on delivery apparently and it's costing them big money. Most of the items sre worth under $10 and there is a lot of it. The tracked 24 passports & visa's also come through the locker 1-2k per night. I take it that contract is worth big money and they don't trust their tacked 24 service to get it there. Now it's the NHS letters, although they were taken out last week, nationaly I think. Wouldn't be surprised if it came back in though.

We are still doing it at my MC.

Yes it's been scrapped. That's what we have been told by our managers anyway. There are a few mail centres still sending them through the sd locker but most have stopped. Any we receive now just get taken out onto the floor and get processed the normal way.
