Would I be within my rights to refuse to take out a van in this disgusting state?
Or advise manager you're going to have to clean the inside of the wagon and will either will have to 'cut off' or claim OT?

I had a van last year which had a bottle of drivers Tizer left in the back. I cleared the door pocket out and found a PDA they didn’t even know was missing.

And yet further south we call it urine! Sounds like a male driver has taken a slash in the back of the van and has forgotten to remove the receptacle at the end of his shift??

Don’t you use the same van every day? If mine is left in a mess by someone on SA, you bet your arse I’m reporting it.

I have a condition that I can not work in dirty , chaotic spaces. My van is spotless and so is my frame. When i come back from leave i spend 30 minuites ( their time ) cleaning the interior otherwise I refuse to use it. My mind can not take mess in. The photos make me physically sick. The point is they are in that state because of dirty lazy work mates. Blame managers is like blaming the council for dirty streets when it is the public who make the mess. I often wonder what people's houses look like if they are happy to work in these conditions. Refuse to work in such filth. Take photos , let them send you home and take them to tribunal.

Just noticed a bog roll in the passenger side. Surely not for having a dump outdoors while on delivery??
I keep loo roll in my van but only for when I check the oil.
I found two bottles of piss in a tray in the back once. I left it on the rota mans fitting for him in the morning.

But always do a proper vehicle check. If manager won’t work it off, don’t go out in it. Same as HTC. If one brake isn’t working, it’s not safe.

As others have mentioned, if the police pull you over because of a vehicle that’s not road worthy it’ll be you that gets the points and fines.
And if you trolley swings into the road as you walk down a driveway because only one brake works RM will not hesitate in disciplining you.

How exactly do you check if all the brakes are working independently on your van check then? :left:

Its a health hazard click the thumbs down and if manager refuses to give you another van just sit down and refuse to go out, i done this a few months ago and told him when you find me a clean van i'll be sat on my frame ,he threw his toys out of the pram ,stamped his feet and stormed off and 5 minutes later came back and gave me another van. Next day this van had been cleaned inside and out,you are well within your rights to refuse get your H&S officer and union rep involved too.

Guess the majority of vans are only 20-30,000 miles old - pictures tell you of our fellow workers and their attitudes. Disgraceful most times, almost saying ' they didnt clean it - so i wont ' Our old manager clamped down during covid, but now back to normal. Get the culprits thru the pda, and get out and clean it. Shocking fleet to be honest.

Earlier in the week I treated my usual van, a Peugeot Expert, to a spin through the automated car wash at a nearby garage. It was literally covered all over in black soot, grime and mildew. Although not perfect, it washed up very nicely and now has a bit of a shine about it. It looks a different van! I have been driving it since August, yet that was its first ever wash in all that time.

The bloke who deals with vans at our place — a belligerent, overly officious twit — had the gall to tell me I wouldn’t be reimbursed the £5.95 as apparently the fleet have “self-cleaning paintwork” and it didn’t need cleaning!!

I guess people will treat 15 year old vans like crap when they don’t even get a proper service and an annual wash.
