If they cut staff to 3 day do you really believe they will get the mail out on time still with half the staff.
you could say that whatever they do.... Royal Mail have become totally unreliable....

but I would have thought the reduction to a smaller workforce where they only need to cover 3 day a week letter deliveries would be easy for them to cover, they wouldn't have staff shortages and I don't think they'd want to get behind by 3 or 4 days. They'd be saving huge amounts of money that they'd likely give a reliable 3 day service.
They will still have the same staffing problems they do now. If deliveries are going out every 2 to 3 days that means you have at least double mail every day. That’s means heavier pouches and more calls on a daily basis which slows you down and will cause way more injuries.

Royal Mail is an aging workforce and it isn’t employing younger people as they aren’t interested in the job. Most of us won’t want to do 6+ hours deliveries every single day.

The rounds will have to change (probably something OFCOM have taken into consideration in their costs savings calculations?) as posties won't be able to deliver double the post and packets on a daily basis.

If we go to 3 days a week how many jobs will go?
30-50 thousand?
That includes posties,drivers,managers,mail centres,callers offices,admin,payroll etc etc
What was the top line annual saving, £650m?, assuming that's mainly labour costs saving and the average postie earns £25K then that's 26K of full time staff, so 30-50K f/t & p/t staff seems about right, I'm not sure why Government will want to support a business making such cuts?

Call rates at the moment are reportedly at or below 30%. Assuming you're not already doing it, Alternate Day Delivery is intended to bring call rates back up to sustainable levels as they were circa the introduction of P&L. Presumably that would also entail putting walks back into the unit that have disappeared in that timeframe. Presumably.
The machine stops.

One thing is for certain the rounds won’t be getting smaller if these changes come in if anything they will get bigger. It’s obvious that the company or the regulator couldn’t give a damn.

It will be interesting what happens to the DSA companies considering that letters are supposed to drop even more. Maybe Royal Mail can pick up that work if these companies become unprofitable.

I don’t see how rounds could be made bigger. You would have to reduce them if anything to allow for the 2-3 days of built up letters. Unless they completely separate rounds into letters only and dedicated parcel routes. If you don’t have to knock at any houses theoretically you could make those routes bigger but how anyone would cope physically is beyond me.

If Mail is down as much as we are constantly led to believe, why can’t Royal Mail achieve its delivery targets, or am I missing something.
Because posties are still having to cover the same amount of ground but with far fewer letters per address than 10 years ago.

Even at those figures for head count reduction I'm willing to bet that any VR's on offer will still be oversubscribed.

But of course the self serving union will continue to not act in its member's interests and will oppose all and any job losses even with VR because it doesn't want to see a reduction in its gravy train from membership subs.

Doing 2 - 3 days letters everyday would be a killer for even the fittest of us. I think the only plan Royal Mail have is to do it as cheaply as possible they obviously don’t give a damn about the physical implications of the workforce.

For every other day to work you would need to reduce walk sizes up to 40% which is never going to happen.

Not necessarily if its only letters.
I'm assuming the only way a reduction in the USO is achievable is for letter and parcel deliveries to be separated.

I wish my round was only 30%. Most houses get post everyday, granted apartments are probably 20-30% call rate....but houses, no chance....it's more like 70%+ for me.

No chance of that happening there wouldn’t be enough vans for one and in my office the DPR routes lasted all of six weeks. If anything they would roll over none tracked parcels to.

This is Royal Mail we are taking about here they want us working at 100% for every single second.

Maybe I'm being pessimistic but it does look like they couldn't care less 3 5 or 6 days.

I have managers that will moan at me and others if we do something where it costs a few minutes....

but then they'll get agency workers in too early who just stand around for the first 20-40minutes doing nothing.

or I'll typically finish 2 or 3 minutes late, but they'll whine that I was talking for 2 minutes earlier in the day.

It's just petty and ridiculous.
