The cheek of Martin Seidenberg to suggest that Royal Mail might need a government subsidy to survive. The company is nearly all owned by private investors, with Daniel Kretinsky of Vesa Equity now owning a 25% stake. His personal fortune jumped by another billion last year!

Royal Mail losing money is all smoke and mirrors. We now have less staff, bigger deliveries, less sick pay and increased postage and yet we are failing to deliver just 7 billion instead of 20 billion letters every year. Are we now losing two million pounds a day instead of one million on the back of a record breaking Xmas that most of us didn't get an incentive bonus for??

We will have to wait for OfCom's report next week on their recommendations because they previously suggested a few years ago that dropping Saturday deliveries could save Royal Mail £225 million. Hopefully that money will go towards a better service that's been deteriorating for years rather than dividends to shareholders and higher executive pay. But the experience of privatisation suggests the latter and imho it's a route towards a 3 day mail delivery week (like many countries in Europe) and thousands of job losses. Just as well Royal Mail managed to reduce our redundancy pay.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Always going to happen. Pretty inevitable really.
Not sure how it would work with drivers and non drivers working Saturday (unless the non drivers just get mon-fri).

Rota men will no longer be needed so jobs will go, most likely most will just be by not replacing those who retire or leave.

Can see it eventually going to a 4 day USO.

I’m been lurking….not much to say really lately.
Seeing how the changes would be implemented.

It’s a different landscape now for sure.

Probably the non drivers will get their Saturday hours divided up between Mon-Fri. RM will need to allow for any unusually busy days with letters held over.

RM might have them doing Sundays on rota instead delivering Tracked and packets

No one seems to be picking up the fact that RM caused this themselves.......

only those on the Frontline who are slugging it everyday know what's been going on.....

RM screwed the walks up that badly that it's impossible to deliver to all delivery points in your contracted hours on any given day in every corner of the UK......

OFCOM need to look at limiting Delivery span times ,nevermind canning saturday mail deliveries.

as with the post office scandal, RM aren't prepared to take the blame for wrong doing on there part.....

I am not sure that delivery spans falls within Ofcom's remit.
However, smaller delivery spans means fewer full time jobs.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

We only work 5 days out of 6 on delivery so dont know why non drivers would need their saturday hours divided up and added to mon-fri - there still has to be a day off and regular mon-fri hours would make up most of the weekly contracted hours

Saturday would just become the day off rather than it being rotational
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Or put everyone on a four day week

how does it equal fewer jobs if there's an increase in duties due to lower delivery span times per duty?

We all know it has nothing to do with saving money just making more money ,just watch those silly ,stupid and dumb MP's fall for it,unless they are getting backhanders filling their pockets ,nothing surprises me anymore, wouldnt be surprised if the cwu top dogs add a bit more to their pension pot. All i know is i am not looking forward to a straight 5 day a week on my brutal round especially when we go 9 to 5 in the next couple of years ,think that is when ill cash in the pension and call it a day, think the cwu will suffer then a lot of older guys leaving and less money in their pockets,we all know the cwu are already on a cost cutting exercise preparing for its downfall .

I think that too no one will want to touch this hot potato for a few years ,it took them 20 to come out and speak about the post office, the only way it will go through if pockets are filled with wads of cash.

As someone pointed out in a earlier post the only people who benefit from privatisation are directors & shareholders. Customers & staff are a second thought

Fewer full time jobs, due to shorter outdoor time.
