In what context? Denial of receipt or just lost (fell out of back of van etc). I wouldn’t have thought you will get sacked either way unless it’s a regular occurrence.

Everyone of us has made an error , throughout or working lives with RM, if your manager is seasoned ,you should be OK. Just take your time , the old rule, doorstep check. Take care

If you're on an old contract; the boss doesn't like you; you never work overtime; you always cut off; you love arguing with anyone about your massive workload; etc. etc. and then you lose a parcel... they may want to paint a target on your back.
If you are the opposite of those things listed above and the manager is reasonable and you're generally a "good chap" you probably will dodge a bullet. But losing things, even one thing, needs a wake up call. I don't think "we're only human" really allows us to have no/zero come back - you would typically expect something, even a verbal warning/ ticking off. And if there is an acceptable number of missing items... what is it? Two per month? One every six months? Who is to say.
I heard in a local office the big bosses have more time now after Christmas (sorry PEAK!) and are looking at performance and complaints and are looking to sack people. I heard a manager was asked to sack a postie who scanned a box too earlier twice in a row (or two recent events or something). Sacked for scanning a postbox early? Do the bosses (the big bosses - area and higher) really want people's blood for minor things?

Worrying stuff, mind you scanning a postbox early you do get a warning if you attempt it so I'd imagine that would be classed as intentional rather than an unfortunate accident.Basildon Bond wrote: ↑09 Jan 2024, 06:25If you're on an old contract; the boss doesn't like you; you never work overtime; you always cut off; you love arguing with anyone about your massive workload; etc. etc. and then you lose a parcel... they may want to paint a target on your back.

Just the one ?No
Special Deliveries need more care though.
If you get a warning about a lost parcel(s) do not leave any unattended which are not specified on your PDA.
Customer can always download the Royal Mail App and set their Delivery Preferences ie Safeplace etc which will cover your ass.

We've been told similar, it's a bit mad really when they can't get anybody reliable to replace us anyway. Next they'll be asking why are you now taking longer than you did before Xmas!Basildon Bond wrote: ↑09 Jan 2024, 06:25If you're on an old contract; the boss doesn't like you; you never work overtime; you always cut off; you love arguing with anyone about your massive workload; etc. etc. and then you lose a parcel... they may want to paint a target on your back.

If it’s been misdelivered the GPS will give u an idea of where it’s gone. If it’s fell out of the van then it will show as not having a delivery scan in your scan to core list. I always check on the pda when I have finished to make sure I have cleared everything I scanned to core.

On the PDA outdoor screen top right menu show delivery points, it'll show how many items you scanned to core route/how many left to scan as delivered.Angrysheep wrote: ↑09 Jan 2024, 18:47How do you check everything you cleared?Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑09 Jan 2024, 17:41If it’s been misdelivered the GPS will give u an idea of where it’s gone. That's fine for a solo duty but those in pairs it all appears on one PDA and obvs shows plenty outstanding as only covering half the loops etc.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑09 Jan 2024, 18:53On the PDA outdoor screen top right menu show delivery points, it'll show how many items you scanned to core route/how many left to scan as delivered.Angrysheep wrote: ↑09 Jan 2024, 18:47How do you check everything you cleared?Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑09 Jan 2024, 17:41If it’s been misdelivered the GPS will give u an idea of where it’s gone. Re: Is losing a parcel a sackable offence ?
That's what I thought, I assume the post before mine relates to a solo, perhaps the PDA outdoor software development peeps will modify it at some point, I suppose it's not actually two routes/duties it's really one that has two people delivering it so maybe they'll devise a method to log each postie's PDAs into the same route of two duties as such as far as delivering it is concerned.Racingpostie wrote: ↑09 Jan 2024, 19:12That's fine for a solo duty but those in pairs it all appears on one PDA and obvs shows plenty outstanding as only covering half the loops etc.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑09 Jan 2024, 18:53On the PDA outdoor screen top right menu show delivery points, it'll show how many items you scanned to core route/how many left to scan as delivered.Angrysheep wrote: ↑09 Jan 2024, 18:47How do you check everything you cleared?Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑09 Jan 2024, 17:41If it’s been misdelivered the GPS will give u an idea of where it’s gone.
