Teaching a scammer a lesson (Anyone work in 4 group in Oxford?)

Fellas,

Don't know if I'm allowed to post something like this so feel free to delete it if necessary mods.

I'm currently in the process of being scammed by a guy in Oxford (he thinks) to the tune of £600. I bought a mobile on fleabay at the beginning of the week and the guy sent me a U.S. region phone that was advertised as an International one. As soon as I emailed this guy about the phone the other 4 he was selling immediately disappeared from eBay, what's that saying?!!
To cut a long story short, rather than send the phone back via the unsecured route he wanted, I spent the money and sent it special so he couldn't say he didn't get it. He was panicking that I sent it to one address and repeatedly asked me to tell him where his own house was!! Of course, I wouldn't.
So anyway, I sent it to the address stated on ebay, but surprise, surprise, he wasn't in, and he didn't get a card! The guy emailed me again for literally the 23rd time and said that he had three addresses and he must have been at the wrong one! It's hilarious!
So, I told him not to worry it would be delivered on Monday, or if he dared he could go to the sorting office and pick it up.

Now I know all this is bullshit and I don't know (or care) what this guy has going off, but I just want to make sure that the packet gets to the legal owner of the property that my special is addressed to. Now I know as posties we often hand specials to customers who we know outside their properties. But I get a feeling this guy either doesn't live at this address or no longer lives there. I think he may wait for the postman who delivers to OX4 3BU and ask him for the packet without actually being IN the house.

Please, if anyone works in the Oxford 4 group office can you pass on this message to them to just do the job to the law? If he intercepts you outside, please make him put the key in the door and open it! Dishonest people really grind my beans and if I can stop just one of them I'd love it!!

Even if nothing else may help a postie out from making a costly mistake to their employment so seems a reasonable heads up and good reminder on dealing with specials or all parcels.

Fortunately jimmy, I'll get my money back, but you're right it's a good reminder to us all to just do the job correctly!

I hope you went through the official eBay process of raising an item not as described case, unless I'm misunderstanding your description of what happened it sounds like you didn't as you say you emailed the seller and sent it to an address you could see on his eBay account, or did he request returning to a different address?

Going the official route eBay would have provided a prepaid return then automatically refunded you when it was delivered.

As I say don't want to worry you if I misunderstood what happened.

No, it's ok I sent it to the address stated by eBay, only I sent it special delivery because I knew he would probably say he didn't get it. I did all the previous "item not as described" stuff as well.

For those that sign for things sometimes (myself included), we should come up with a secret code between posties to "do this one By The Book" (to do something correctly and strictly, following all the rules).

Maybe add between the name and first line of the address, or on the first line the letters BTB. Postie code for don't DWS this one mate and the photos needs to be with an open door of the property.

There is sometimes junk in the eBay label's address (something eBay uses but is just a bunch of letters to humans) that know one would know the actual meaning.

Yes please do, I'd also be interested to how it works out, eBay actually tend to favour buyers so that's also in your favour.

Anything semi valuable always sent special delivery,the one thing that’s superb in Royal Mail,a few years back I had a faulty phone off a major provider and asked to post it back with a prepaid return Jiffy bag,after about two weeks I had heard nothing so contacted them they said they had received nothing from me hard luck etc, I then asked is such and such a person still signing for special delivery as I paid a little extra to send it SD he signed for my phone on a certain date at 8.30 sent proof etc,next day brand new phone return to me,it’s the safest way to send stuff hope everything works out for you

Guy got the phone Monday and I got a refund for £600.(via PayPal)

Got an email from him asking why I left negative feedback can you believe, then got one from ebay asking me if I wanted to reverse my decision!

Anyway, I ended up out £8.15 but I consider it so much better than £600! The search continues.

Great news glad to hear that, yeah if at 1st he'd just said something like sorry mate my mistake, didn't realise and accepted the return without all the bollocks that might have got him better feedback.
