You don't have to wait 55 to leave the business! There's a few that have left our office and have found another job to tide over a few more years.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Is that to take money out of the pension you mean?comeracing wrote: ↑26 Dec 2023, 20:242028 will see earliest retirement age go from 55 years old to 57 years old luckily im 55 in 2027, if I can wait that long I'll be out with 31 years service ,I can fully understand why staff are leaving in there droves ,who can blame them .Everyone who ive talked to who have left recently at 55 before and after that age have held no regrets in leaving.

I left this year. In October. I was 55 in July. Took my lump sums. Prob need to get a part time job next April. I don’t see why it should be moved to 57 though. It’s our money. Our decision. Our life.

I’m 55 today! How do I go about finding how much pension I’m entitled too!ive 25 years service and want to go in next 6 months as had enough like most people, I know it won’t be enough to live on but hopefully get a part time job, also does anyone know how much I would get approximately, I’m trying to work out but not easy!

You surely get statements each year with the amount your pension is worth on them? There should be a number that you can ring on them, you should have built a decent pot with 25 years service.matthew68 wrote: ↑27 Dec 2023, 17:06I’m 55 today! We get 'free money' when paying into a pension – from the employer and the taxman. In return for that, we have to abide by pension rules, and those rules can always change!Numberone63 wrote: ↑27 Dec 2023, 09:48I don’t see why it should be moved to 57 though. It’s our money. Our decision. Our life.
The minimum access age increased from 50 to 55 in 2010, is due to rise to 57 in 2028 and it's expected will then be aligned to 10 years below state pension age from then on. So will increase to 58 when SPA changes to 68.
That is currently due to happen in the mid 2040's, but will almost certainly be brought forward into the 2030's.
Whether RM still exists into the future shouldn't have any direct effect on whether your pension is paid out.comeracing wrote: ↑27 Dec 2023, 15:43Yes lump sum and pension take it at 55 royal mail might not exist beyond 2030
The RMSPS is paid for by the government/taxpayer.
The RMPP is currently heavily in surplus and so has enough in the pot to pay our benefits. The Pensions Protection Fund is there to fall back on if need be.
The new CDC scheme(when it starts) is designed to never be in deficit.

It's odd because I work at an average size office and I don't know a single postman who has gone at 60 let alone 55. There are quite a few who are state pension age and still do overtime. Crazy but that's how it is. Let's be honest. Unless you have a large inheritance, lottery win or married into money few are leaving at 55. Dream on.comeracing wrote: ↑26 Dec 2023, 20:242028 will see earliest retirement age go from 55 years old to 57 years old luckily im 55 in 2027, if I can wait that long I'll be out with 31 years service ,I can fully understand why staff are leaving in there droves ,who can blame them .Everyone who ive talked to who have left recently at 55 before and after that age have held no regrets in leaving.

Yeah same in ours. Even with those decent pensions for old timers, with the cost of living being what it is, even without a mortgage there is no way you can live on a pension at 55 and actually enjoy it.Wullie10 wrote: ↑27 Dec 2023, 18:48It's odd because I work at an average size office and I don't know a single postman who has gone at 60 let alone 55. Was thinking the same , im 60 next year after over 30 years service, i will be taking some of my pension and a lump sum, but there is no way i could retire but may try and do a 3 day week or try and reduce my hoursLouBarlow wrote: ↑27 Dec 2023, 19:27Yeah same in ours. I agree, oddly it seems that you have a better standard of living if have never paid into a pension. Not luxurious but..and should you be fortunate enough to qualify for a tax credit...bingoLouBarlow wrote: ↑27 Dec 2023, 19:27Yeah same in ours. Re: Who's lucky enough to be 55 before 2028.
The ironic thing is the people who tell you life is too short , you can't take it with you etc are the ones who should be banging in extra pension payments . Instead they think they can sail off at 55 with paying the minimum over 25 years . Its absolutely peanuts. People I know are shocked what they get at 60 never mind 55.
