Royal Mail Partners with Electric Green to Adopt Wireless Charging Technology for Electric Vehicles

Royal Mail has taken a significant step in its decarbonization efforts by partnering with Electric Green to adopt cutting-edge wireless charging technology for electric vehicles. This partnership is part of Innovate UK’s V2X (vehicle-to-everything) Innovation Program, an initiative aimed at driving decarbonization in the UK’s logistics sector.

To achieve this, Royal Mail will utilize Electric Green’s Capacitive Transfer System (CTS), a revolutionary wireless charging solution that offers increased safety and cost-effectiveness compared to traditional charging methods. Unlike conventional charging, the CTS allows for simultaneous charging of multiple vehicles and eliminates the need for connected charging cables. In addition, it enables a Royal Mail depot to not only power its own operations but also return excess energy to the grid or sell it to the distribution operator.


The adoption of CTS-powered wireless charging technology will not only strengthen Royal Mail’s decarbonization efforts but also enhance the capabilities of its electric vehicle fleet. Through improved communication and interaction with other elements in the environment, connected electric vehicles will operate more efficiently, providing safer working conditions and contributing to net-zero emissions goals.

The introduction of CTS technology is expected to accelerate the adoption of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) energy management, making charging electric vehicle batteries easier and hassle-free. By participating in the V2X pilot process, Royal Mail aims to further strengthen its electrification strategy and achieve a zero-emission status by 2040.

This partnership marks an exciting milestone for Electric Green, Royal Mail, and Q Energy. Martin Beaumont, CEO of Electric Green, expressed confidence in their wireless charging solution, stating that it will not only help Royal Mail decarbonize its fleet but also improve productivity by eliminating the need for plug-in charging cables.
