Xmas tips for your round if off sick

About 20 years ago when I was a day off cover I did one of the most senior blokes rural job on Christmas eve. I collected 14 cards off various people that were either handed to me in or stuck on letterboxes/doors. On the way back to the office I popped into a pub where I knew the duty holder would be and gave him all these envelopes. I got a thanks but didn’t even get a drink out of him. I learnt a lot that day and how it made me feel. Now I have my own duty I always make sure I look after the day off cover and they always help me out throughout the year because of it.

Got a card today and inside it said, get yourself a drink... £2 was in it! Obviously they don't drink pints lol!

Still happy with that plus they do take all the parcels for the neighbours and are are decent sort.

Haha that happened to me, I thought how long is it since you went for a pint, mind you my local 'spoons usually has some guest ale for £1.99

I’m floored by the idea a float or reserve has to hand over a tip to the regular guy if they are on day off or sick. I’d be f***ing embarrassed if my float came to give me some money they had been given the previous day when I had my day off. It’s terrifying that some posties would just take the money off the float person as it’s “their” round.
They are not “our” rounds they are royal mails. We are all paid to post bits of paper and knock on doors so if you were off on Wednesday when Bob was given a tenna off Mrs smith at number 12 it’s tough f***ing s**t, don’t be a scumbag and let the float have the tip.

That’s what most decent minded people would do, unfortunately I haven’t met many at Royal Mail. Dog eat dog, all out for themselves. A parcel driver at our place gave the duty holder an envelope with, no doubt, a tip in there , which was left in the porch for the ‘ postman .’ Needless to say, he kept it. Parcel driver says he gets nothing. Seems to be acceptable behaviour where I work. Ignorant fcukers.

Found out today one of our older duty holders has been known to refuse tips from the persistently complaining/rude customers, telling them "keep your money, I'd rather you just be pleasant the rest of the year"

If its given to you - its for you. Unless the person handing out specifically says can you give it to the regular guy. If the householder gives it to a stranger they are obviously not worried who gets it and i tell anybody covering my round just that.

I always tell the day off cover if someone tips you it's yours but let me know they've tipped so I know to treat them accordingly. The day off cover shouldn't have to hand tips given to them to the regular postie, they do the same job and the same amount of work it's not their fault they don't do the same area day in day out.
I find most folk on my walk wait for me to come back to tip me as I know where all the safe places are and rarely take any parcels back except specials.

I'm agency and was offered an envelope and told the lady the normal postie would be on tomorrow albeit I've been on same round for 4 weeks and we swap driver/walker each week. Another day I got moved for a day and took a pinned card from a door addressed to postman and gave it to driver to give to the regular postie who's day off I was covering. Wasn't interested in the tips or asked if they got money but a thank you would have been nice.

If you want your tips, dont go off sick. Simple.
If your off sick, hard luck. We are all doing the same job. If youve provided a good service all year round, your customer will wait until your back.

I was a float a couple of years ago. If I was given tips from the round I was covering I would make a note of how much,the address, and pass it on to the duty holder. In turn he would give me a small %age of his tips. Thus causing no embarrassment to myself.

I'd of personally would have gone halves with my cover but not had anyone cover my round for over a damn year or if had any this year Lovely present) surprise of a weeks mail whenever back from leave every time. Not actually surprised though not got anything this year with the garbage service this company has gave to the public.
