Leaving And Handing in Notice?

Couple of questions please.

I, Is it still 1 weeks notice for older staff - been there 20yrs.

2. New job is pencilled in to start 8th Jan as I am on annual leave from the 3rd Jan.

When am I best to hand my notice in? Does my annual leave effect it? I am also off on the 22nd Jan but obviously I'll be gone by then.

Any advice please

It's a week on the old contract. Nice. You can hand notice in and take it as a work week, annual leave, sick leave or whatever you need to do for the last week.

You'll still get your leave money, ie the unused holiday due to end date of your contract. It gets paid about 2 weeks after you leave.

Just in case any problems arise Screen shot your leave owed on the people app because you will not be able to access once you left the business.

I did think about handing my notice in before Christmas but talked myself out of it!

So to clarify, I will still get them two week in Jan even though my employment will cease before/on the first week of Jan?

I did have some odd days(hours now) owed to, guessing they get payed up?

I don't think you'll get the pay in lieu for the last week, if you've done 20 years then you're due 6 weeks leave so when you resign there'll still be 3 months left until the end of the leave year so I don't think you'll be eligible, having said that apparently it's down to your manager to inform HR of what outstanding leave you're due for so hopefully they'll mess it up and pay you.

people are leaving in their droves now. we had 10 VRs left in march and since then we've had another 8 left of their own accord for ''easier'' jobs. 2 of those got jobs at the local Aldi. their wages are going up to over £12 an hour in January, with paid breaks. our new starters are on less than that and no paid breaks. how this job has went down the pan.

When I left, I put my notice in 3 weeks beforehand, despite it only needing to be 1. It gave them chance to sort things out on time.

I got my outstanding leave in my last pay packet and my P45 was waiting for me at home after my last shift.

No relying on RM to pay me after I'd left!

You accrue holiday on a pro rata basis.
In your case, you're leaving after roughly 9 months of the leave year, so you're only entitled to ¾ of your holiday entitlement for the 23/24 year.

If you've used up more than that, you'll owe them. If less, they'll owe you.

Plus you'll be entitled to any other outstanding odd days due to Bank holidays, etc. Or any you've carried over from previous years.

Great news ,in the grand scheme of things i wouldn't worry too much just give your notice and leave, and good luck and try and remember your 20 years as time you served your community not 20 years of being beaten by royal mail.

You just need to know how much holiday you're entitled to and how much you've already taken.
It's just basic maths really!

Oh forget to say, could I put my notice in for when I am off at the start of Jan and therefore not have to 'work' a weeks notice?

Just work our how much holiday you're owed- last day of December is a nice round 3/4 of your entitlement.
Remember to add any bank holidays over Xmas.
If you're owed 4 days or whatever, say your last day is the 31st and tell them you're on leave from the 28th and won't be back.
That way you're not chasing anything.
Keep screenshots of leave.
