PUSHING THEIR LUCK...
We couldn't believe our eyes when us part-timers
got the planned Schedule Attendance for this Xmas:
only Saturdays are on offer, and there are only 43
slots! They know perfectly well that every year, us
part-timers rely on these extra-hours. They tell us
we can, however, always do "unforeseen" overtime,
which is OT which they offer at the very last minute
at flat rate! As if this can make up for the loss of SA.

MEAN AND DUMB
And how can we plan our week when we're
supposed to call the Book-room every day to find out
if OT is available? We don't understand why
managers can't organise who and what they need at
least a few days in advance. Because it's definitely
"foreseen"! Is this down to incompetence? Are they
just being mean, pure and simple? Or both?

THEY WANT OT, THEY SHOULD PAY FOR IT!
If we all told management that we cannot do the job
- because we all know that they need the extra
hands - it'd be a way to force them to reinstate
proper scheduled attendance for everyone - and pay
the premium rate for it.

A MESS THAT SUITS US...
Now that Xmas work has picked up, there is a traffic
jam on the PSM at Nights, with yorks full of rejects
standing in the way, waiting to be sent to manual
sorting... But we don't mind! It slows down the
PSM!

WE DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR THIS
The few Temps who've already started, are being
told to use this new app, "JoinedUp", to book their
shifts. Most of the time, it tells them just the day
before that they'll have work, or even on the same
day?! What kind of zero-hour non-contract is this?

XMAS CASUALS NEEDED, BUT NOT WANTED!
Less than 2 weeks before Temps were due to start
here, many received a message from RM saying
they weren't wanted in Processing and they could
apply for Delivery jobs... This is as nasty as it is
stupid. Managers know very well they need these
guys in processing, many of whom have worked
here every year for years. Let's insist they call them
in - and guarantee their hours!

JUST MAKING A MESS!
The review of Distribution start times and duties is a
shambles. Wet-under-their-ears managers don't
realise that later starts will have a knock-on effect...
What time will we finish if we're stuck in traffic jams
later in the morning? Duty changes used to be
planned for, at least 6 months in advance, by a
knowledgeable team. This current crop of college boy
know-nothings haven't a clue.

WHAT ARE THEY PLAYING AT?
Over 100 permanent drivers in the Camden
Parcelforce depot are expecting to be transferred to
the Tottenham depot, when Camden closes in
November next year. This sounds both senseless
and dubious, so we're wondering whether in fact the
bosses want to cut some of our jobs.

THE FORCE WON'T BE WITH CAMDEN?
As it happens, the volume of work coming to
Camden has increased! And drivers are asked to
cover an even wider area. So what sense does it
make to close this depot?

FALLING TO BITS
Some of our mates "redeployed" to DOs in North
London are back at the Mount to help with the Xmas
pressure. And they definitely don't want to go back,
given the chaos that reigns in some of these DOs,
with too few workers, too many duties, and new
starts (on worse Ts&Cs) quitting the job after 5
minutes! No wonder.

NOT OUR REPRESENTATIVE!
We saw a leaflet saying we should "vote Martin
Walsh for CWU Deputy General Secretary". But if
you read it, he sounds just like one of the managers;
his ambition is to make RM more successful! He
says nothing about the attacks on our conditions, our
main issues like supernumeraries, or redeployment.
What interest do we have in voting for guys like him?

NO CUTS TO USO!
What Walsh did mention was his being in favour of
reducing the USO to 5 days. The bosses are selling
this because they want to cut their obligation and cut
our numbers. Walsh says it would give us
Saturdays off... As if! With parcels going through
the roof etc., etc! In fact, they want us in 24/7 - and
at half price!

DUMBO
Oh dear, it seems The Elephant wasn't very pleased
to find out, when he was back from his (way too
short!) holidays, that a cleaner had quit the job. He
couldn't understand why anybody wouldn't want to
work under his wonderful trunk? How unconscious
can an Elephant be?

What's the actual reason for the Camden depot closing? If it's the landlord booting them out then what do you expect RM to do about it?

It was a sell-out deal that sold deliveries down the river, end of story. Both unelectable. The union needs a total and complete clear-out at the top. The lot of them need to go.
