Do you mean expected going by what you saw yourself in previous years or royal mails expert prediction which probably won't be worth the back of the fag packet it was worked out on.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑02 Dec 2023, 06:46We're nowhere near the expected peak levels of packets and TrackedMickeybrowneyes wrote: ↑02 Dec 2023, 02:24hoping we have seen the worst of it parcel/packet wise, but I doubt it.

Re: Where's all the work?
Place is flooded with xmas casuals and the work has barely even got above normal weekday levels. Likely going to be a big lay off as it is a terrible waste of money.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑02 Dec 2023, 06:46We're nowhere near the expected peak levels of packets and TrackedMickeybrowneyes wrote: ↑02 Dec 2023, 02:24hoping we have seen the worst of it parcel/packet wise, but I doubt it.
Got alot of Angard staff in attendance alongside 300 odd RM Xmas casuals.

Re: Where's all the work?
Yes, we have a lot of that bad attitude and sense of entitlement you identify from a significant minority of the longstanding staff at our DO. Manager said to a few of us today that they will be clearing out the “deadwood” (his words, referring to those belligerent, cantankerous longstanding staff) with a vengeance come the New Year as the office can no longer function with so many people not pulling their weight. Apparently RM see us recent joiners and the agency staff, and our can-do attitude, as being the future of the business.Chorizo: Alot of bad attitudes and entitlement amongst this years crop, will be good to see the bulk get laid off sharpish.

Machine operators have even been replaced with casuals.
They’ll be getting retained well into late january i suspect.
But at the moment with the low traffic volumes its like some sort of free job club.

Re clearing the "deadwood", that`ll be getting rid of people on better contracts rather than the crappy ones the newbies are on then.

Yeah revisions are obviously what are causing offices to melt down. It is also interesting that you bring so many parcels back. Are you not on a round where you can make arrangements with your more prolific parcel addicts as to where you can leave items?
All of mine have safe places assigned and I even have codes for gate locks etc that allows me access to back gardens etc. You shouldn’t need to go that far but it makes life easier for everyone.
We have recently been getting around 200-300 Tracked items on a busy day and we are told to prioritise them. Even with parcel drivers helping out with the bulky stuff, there simply isn't the time to get them all delivered, so we have been bringing many of them back undelivered. The problem is whilst we are delivering the Tracked stuff the mail has been stockpiling and management have had to bring in dozens of agency staff to help out and deliver the parcels. However even the agency guys have been bringing back Yorks full of parcels undelivered. Its not really their fault as they can't possibly be expected to be up to speed with the regulars who know the areas, and I can't imagine how difficult it must be to start their shift in the afternoon (due to a lack of hire vans) and work into the night when you can't see the street numbers nor the parcels in the van.
Royal Mail must be spending an absolute fortunate in our office this Xmas. Could it be unthinkable that RM continue to push this performance bonus in front of our faces and then turn round in January next year and say that they haven't actually made any money in doing it? It will be our fault obviously...
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

True. What RM want is an alternative workforce - someone who is cheaper, flexible and willing to jump whenever they are asked to. Personally, I think its unacceptable that RM should be offering this performance bonus when they are recruiting staff on less money than these "regulars". Surely that would suggest that the business has money or is about to make money somewhere??

It amazes me how poorly some offices are run. It is clear to me though with posts like this, that a bad revision is what ultimately causes this. Once it is in place you are screwed from that point on and you can’t paper over the cracks just by throwing extra staff at it.postslippete wrote: ↑02 Dec 2023, 19:14LouBarlow wrote: ↑01 Dec 2023, 21:18

The most tracked I have had on a 700 call duty this year so far, is 104. There are obviously additional regular parcels on top of that, and that isn’t counting the parcels my relief takes off me. They are crazy numbers you are dealing with.

Some DOs had the number of walks halved. One batch on my CSS had the number of walks cut by half with no sign of them being added to other batchesLouBarlow wrote: ↑03 Dec 2023, 07:46It amazes me how poorly some offices are run. In other news, our christmas cards finally started coming through yesterday. Not many mind you. It will be interesting to see how many we get this year considering the price of stamps and people having no money.

Re: Where's all the work?
Aye, and you would have thought with the price of stamps going up that RM would attach some priority to letters. They still account for nearly half our revenue. We were told to stand down the mail yesterday.
