I would think it’s same as always. Inform your manager on what you won’t be taking. If they insist that you take more then tell them you will bring it back. But in any case, always inform them before you leave.

We are threatened with being sent home if we bring anything back. I've tried to explain to them that this policy is counter productive. There's been a couple of times where we have finished 20?minutes before our time because we've under estimated what we've taken out or we've just had one of those dream days where everything has just clicked so we would have done another loop. But because of their policy we have to err on the side of caution and not take too much out as we don't want to be stuck out with it. We do not work over!

Suggest rather than say 'We won't be taking x amount out' say 'Due to the workload we don't believe we'll be able to complete the duty today within our contracted hours, what do you want us to do?'

If they're decent there'll be some sort of negotiation/discussion, if not and they say take it all out say 'Ok, but I'm need to be back at my finish time, if I haven't got time to complete what do you want me do?' And see what they want you to do.

16 years as a delivery postie before I quit and I still don't know what that is supposed to mean tbh.

I would say let someone who wants to complete the Delivery do it and ask for a packet duty or a collection duty. I’ve worked for Royal Mail over 20 years and have the usual childcare issues but f**k me if u dnt wanna work over Xmas id bugger off somewhere else tbh

I wouldn't want to give up my duty just because it's Christmas and the management had FuBar-ed it. Our parcel duties also take loops so there is no guarantee of finishing on time with one of them. But if I brought it back it'd have a lot more tracked with it.

No need to. If management want to move you off your duty they can do so quoting operational needs.

This is the problem with trying to judge how much mail to take out.

You can never and I mean never get it correct every single time to finish on time on the street, with the mail that you have taken out. There are so many factors that get in the way like customers not being in which eats in to your time and possibly traffic.

You could have one scenario where you get every customer in, and there's no traffic and everything runs smoothly but you didn't take enough mail out, or it could go the other way. Every office differs from how to cut off, but we always leave stuff and sometimes we bring a loop or two back even though we have to contact the manager which sometimes there's no time for that especially once you look at your watch and realise you only have half an hour on the clock.

There's just too much pressure to figure out if you can complete or not.
