Agency bods getting £13.37 at least and paid breaks. Probably get cut as soon as their shift finishes on December 23rd… Still, wouldn’t fancy being a new starter coming in now.
Most on Wednesday-Sunday contracts, close to min wage,no weekends off.
Good luck attracting young hard working people to the business.

On the subject of "Pay parity" Amazon staff have gone on strike today because the GMB Union has called for a rate of pay of at least £15 as well as better working conditions.

This is a good thing because companies like Amazon make huge profits (just like our company will) and these workers deserve a decent rate of pay.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I fear if this isn't addressed quickly it will be us that will have our contracts changed to be in parity with them!
I think that could happen if a threshold is reached of the % of all staff on the new contracts. It could end up being cheaper for RM to force all of us out who are on older contracts, when with whatever they've have to pay out at an Employment Tribunal
That's the whole reason they started new staff on SHITE contracts. Along with moving long term staff off their walks ect. Pissing people off so they will leave and be left with 20 something year olds working to deliver everything, with crappy pension and crappy sickness pay. From April the new staff will only be 78pence per hour higher than the minimum wage.

I worked for RM for a year as agency staff. I'm now on my third week of my new RM contract. I'm so upset about the pay gap and rubbish contract and especially in April when the min living wage goes up. I work my socks off and class myself as a hard loyal worker, but I'm already thinking I've made a mistake accepting the new contract. I was lead to believe our wages would go up after a probation period? I guess this isn't right 😢
It is gutting that I do exactly the same as my work partner and they are getting paid more than me. Surely this is against the law?? Is it not the same as equal pay law?

led to believe or simply assumed? You are still new, with no ties to the job. No reason to stick it out if unhappy

No. It would not be lawful and against equal pay law if you were being paid less because of your gender but thats not the case here.

I sympathise with you though as we really all should be paid the same ( higher ) rate.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Me too ("work my socks off and class myself as a hard loyal worker").

If you can drive (for RM) and are on a new contract you have one advantage... If you turn up each day on time you will probably not be touched/staged. You can DWS everything (inc. SD) and nothing will be said. That's the advantage of the newer contract: job security. All the guys and gals on legacy contracts have to do everything by the book to ensure they are still here in 12 months.

Almost swings and roundabouts. However, the newer contracts are the future; you're just at the beginning of the new situation with the old contracts dying away.

The new contracts are only the future if they are going to be enough to retain staff. RM may think they can employ people on these lesser terms, but I think the penny has dropped as they are failing to retain staff. They still need people to do the job and there are options for people now in other industries to earn as much in a friendlier environment. I get s**t on here for actually being happy in this job and working in a competent office, but even I would be considering alternatives.

The above two posts are starting to sum it up me thinks, I reckon it'll get to a point where they'll struggle that much to recruit and retain staff as long as you actually turn up and do something you'll be fine.
