Definitely doesn't feel like the kind of job you can pick up in a day. It's not hard by any stretch, just a lot of small things to remember.
I got 4 hours training as a regular Postie, managed to pretty much commons sense my way through it.
I've had a day training on PHG, doesn't feel right.
What's your opinion?

Thought PHG grade went about 20 years ago. You use to get more pay for PHG years ago.

you should get no training for a PHG role as it dose not exist any more !!
people should STOP calling them selves PHG ,we are all one grade ,just some get paid more to do the same job .
however you should get training for any new role you cover ,and may be a couple of days shadowing the role to make sure you know what you are doing

Re: How much training do you get for the PHG role?
The PHG grade was scrapped in 1999 as part of the way forward agreement. It was voted out as part of the way forward vote. Everyone who voted yes removed the chance of a better wage for doing a specialised job, like the locker, and a possible enhanced pension.
As such no PHG duties should exist within the business. It’s often used as term for a particular job, though that job will no longer attract enhanced pay .

Doesn't seem like a difficult job - just scan the Specials and allocate them to the walks. Obviously, it's beneficial to know the walks as you could sort through them faster.
Just make the impatient and rude ones wait if you don't want to make mistakes. There are often issues regarding not having enough vans or vans that are too small for this time of year, but surely management can sort that out?

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I think it depends what you class as doing the job, if it was just sorting the specials, handing out van keys then I reckon I and probably most could manage with next to no training,
Having said that our "Phg" does the duty rotas, sorts the holiday list, does all that stuff regarding new builds or changes to duties, aplus I think it's called, sorts out the customer collections labels, inflights, tbh I suspect a fair bit of what he does is the coms work that he cant be arsed to do.
Oh yeah and don't forget the most important aspect of the job is you get to call your colleagues a bunch of lazy bastards when you inevitably get sent to do left loops and lapsing.

Might be a DOM support duty (or whatever it's now called)ted_e_bear wrote: ↑16 Nov 2023, 06:20Having said that our "Phg" does the duty rotas, sorts the holiday list, does all that stuff regarding new builds or changes to duties, aplus I think it's called, sorts out the customer collections labels, inflights, tbh I suspect a fair bit of what he does is the coms work that he cant be arsed to do.

Yeah it is, tbh if all the job entailed was allocating/handing out the specials then just about anyone could do it.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑16 Nov 2023, 07:10Might be a DOM support duty (or whatever it's now called)ted_e_bear wrote: ↑16 Nov 2023, 06:20Having said that our "Phg" does the duty rotas, sorts the holiday list, does all that stuff regarding new builds or changes to duties, aplus I think it's called, sorts out the customer collections labels, inflights, tbh I suspect a fair bit of what he does is the coms work that he cant be arsed to do.
