Pay parity

Post by Jantyc0611 »

With all the strikes in the NHS regarding pay parity. When are the CWU planning to represent all new starts on the new contracts that we’re pushed through by Royal Mail. When are the CWU plan to right this wrong???

I fear if this isn't addressed quickly it will be us that will have our contracts changed to be in parity with them!

It will be addressed next pay deal. Longer serving staff can look forward to the same terms and conditions as new entrants and the union will agree to it to keep their seat at the top table

I think that could happen if a threshold is reached of the % of all staff on the new contracts. It could end up being cheaper for RM to force all of us out who are on older contracts, when with whatever they've have to pay out at an Employment Tribunal

I can just imagine how it will go-
Big CWU announcement....well they wanted you on minimum wage with no paid breaks and statutory holidays but after receiving our strongly worded letter they recinded and agreed to increasing the offer to the same as new starters :chuckle :chuckle

At the moment we all have contracts of employment which are legally binding unless our union decide by collective bargaining to change it, i personally don't see that happening so please stop the scaremongering, anyone on new contracts knew what they were signing up to when they got them so it's hard for them to complain.
Not sure but i thought there was something in the new and fabulous agreement/surrender pay document that said something about it but i could be wrong.
In the long term you could perhaps be correct and things might change when a tipping point happens in terms of % old/new contracts falls in the favour of new contracts, but in the short term that won't change.
I wonder about some people, the inks still wet on the agreement/surrender document and you all start wanting change.

Seeing as they can’t fill the current vacancies because pay and conditions are s**t, I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t reduce us to the same conditions.

I used to think you guys were talking rubbish regarding new entrants & revolving doors. Its now happening in our office & neighbouring offices. Its frightening that most of them leave within a month.

Unfortunately, the CWU can do little about new starters receiving less money for doing the same job. The business obviously feels that we are earning far too much money for the job that we are doing and its everything to do with corporate greed. They know that the gig economy pays less, so they feel that they should be paying us less to remain "competitive".

Forget the fact that they have made record profits in years past or rewarding staff for making the company profitable; they have instead made us feel devalued and turned the screw by extending duties and adding extra jobs for us to do like collections and booking in parcels. Good luck for the CWU in trying to raise these new entrants pay, terms and conditions. If the Union can't even manage to increase part-timers contracts who have been working full-time hours on overtime for years, what chance is there that they will manage to improve these new contracts?
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Most of the people on new contracts at our place where agency workers, who crossed out picket line. No sympathy here when they are moaning about what they've signed upto

Unless the union address this issue, they are finished long-term. Who in their right mid would sign up to join when they are literally doing the same job as the person next to them for significantly less money? Yes, they know what they signed up for, but if it isn’t solved, bye bye CWU. It was stated in the agreement that it would be, and as RM can’t seem to retain new starters, according to folks here, it seems in their best interest too.

Who in their right mind voted yes in the 1st place?

None of the new cohort of workers is wanting to join the union at my place. Out of 25 of us who have joined since July, only one has signed up - and he is thinking of cancelling his membership now he knows how the union sold down the river those new starters from Nov 2022 onwards.

None of the new starters at my place is too fussed about the disparity in pay, terms and conditions as we are all getting what we signed up for and are all earning far more than we were doing. What we are fussed about is the fact that, at my place at least, we are all doing much more work than the longstanding employees. By way of example, yesterday my colleague had 164 delivery points and over 215 parcels - seven whole Yorks!

Contrast that with longstanding employee “John” who also does a DPR. John came in at 9.00 am yesterday, toddled around the office for hours gossiping, then sat in the RLE with his feet up while eating his packed lunch, then eventually - at circa 12.00 noon - started to slowly load his van with half a York of parcels, ie, no more than 30 drops, all the while moaning how busy it was getting! This is a daily occurrence. John isn’t the only culprit here - one of more than a handful.
