Committee Chair responds to Royal Mail investigation

Liam Byrne MP, Chair of the Business and Trade Committee, has called for Royal Mail to deliver changes to its operations on time, following news of the firm's fine for missing post targets.

He said:

“The Business & Trade Committee welcomes the robust action taken by Ofcom. In our report on Royal Mail, published earlier this year, we said that the company had systematically failed to deliver its statutory Universal Service Obligation, and called on Ofcom to investigate this issue.

“The Universal Service Obligation is not an aspirational target – it is a matter of pride for posties across the land, a crucial connection for people in isolated communities, and the cornerstone of Royal Mail’s contract with the public. Everyone in the UK must have access to a consistent postal service, no matter where they live.

“Royal Mail must make it clear how they will fix this issue and secure the future of the USO. Unlike its apparent approach to the public’s post, it is critical that Royal Mail’s future is delivered on time."

Dave Ward has gone from working class hero ( self styled) to his bollocks in a slip knot with Royal Mail holding one end of that string. When I saw the comms that Ofcom couldn't find evidence that senior management ( what level of 'senior' are they talking of here?? ) knew of prioritisation , any faith I had left in Ofcom or the ombudsman process died. They are saying a layer of denial exits which is plausible and that senior ( who knows) management ignorance is different from incompetence and furthermore is not actionable? How can any one of us minions check this conclusion is rational? Ofcom don't deny that there is prioritisation but say Royal Mail isn't culpable because the board/senior management don't know about it? Well they sure as s**t take the money. Who's running this whole racket? I think Ofcom has to be as corrupt as FIFA or some crummy third rate country. The CWU should have been on every news channel telling the truth. I wish CWU had a Mick Lynch- theres a man who still has his balls and knows how to talk to the press. The CWU went and had a Horlicks or needed a vote on what not to do next.
