The jobs awful now, you walk into a skip fire everyday in deliverys! :mad

Ive had a really bad couple of years mental health wise inside and outside work and got to the stage where I was on the verge of having a break down, people noticed at work and told me to got home, I had a long weekend coming up so asked a manager if I could use two days leave to add to my long weekend giving me six days off to try and get my head straight and he granted it, unfortunatly on the second day of the six days off I suffered a stroke and have been off sick now for about just under two months, I've done everything to get myself right again, I have stopped drinking which I was daily and have changed my diet and am not getting treatment for my mental health issues as they think it's that and the drinking that caused my blood pressure to be so high causing the stroke, my stroke consultant was 100% sure that the toxic workplace environment was a large part of the reason I had a stroke.

Iv'e done everything I can to get fit and healthy again but know the s**t show i'm going back to, the obvious thing to do is change jobs but after 36 years that's easier said than done! I'm dreading going back if i'm honest for fear of what it's going to do to my health!

You have my sympathy pal, not that it'll do much on your path to wellness again. You should absolutely make sure your concerns are recorded on return to work interview, if indeed you choose to return to royal mail. There are other options and not one of them will you be expected to do as much of three days worth of work in a 6/7/8 hour shift as a computer thinks should be possible with very little to no regard whatsoever as to the effect it will have on the wellbeing of the individual tasked with plugging the gaps of Royal mails chronic staffing shortages. Whats that, Just make sure all the t24/48 go today, ay right boss but eventually someones gonna have to deliver some of these letters in the frame cos all these letters in the boxes under the frame wont fit in the frame anymore. Feckin double slots!. What a failure.

Im always looking for my way out of royal mail aswell after 20 years, they've really taken the piss with their fair days work for a fair days pay mantra of years passed. Lets just hope the powers that be can see the inevitable implosion unfolding and do something to avoid it, sadly, i doubt royal mail is nothing more than a vehicle to extract cash from the pockets of the british public into the bank accounts of the shareholders.

Im often wrong...but not always. Its chaos for 8 hours but then i get to go home and try not to think about trying my best to squeeze as much as possible of 40 hours work into an hour hour shift tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about your struggles with illness, but you really should concentrate on getting fit and healthy again , not the s**t show that is work, that’s a sure fire way of having a relapse. Don’t let the job kill you despite the management trying their best, it’s not worth it. Hope you get fitter and stronger soon.

Thanks for the support!

I had a OH phonecall today which I guess RM have asked for in getting me back to work ASAP, I was a little worried but should have not been as the nurse was lovely and we even ended chatting about her recent heatlh issues with the call lasting 75 mins :Very Happy , she is recommending I stay off until after Christmas and asking for a phased return and a 'stress rick assessment' before i'm allowed to work again as she was worried about the toxic environment and the effect it's been having on me, I couldn't have wished for a more helpful person :thumbup

There you go, not as bad as you expected was it?
Don`t even think about coming back until after Christmas (sorry, "Peak") however much they try to bully you. There will always be a runner who will mop up later, and if not, it`s management`s problem not yours. Perhaps they`ll realise now that shouldn`t have decimated the walks earlier, although that`s doubtful.
All the best for a speedy recovery.

Remember the days when we had that feeling of accomplishment when we got our rounds done.....

That's gone.... it gets people down. It's not our fault....

On the flip side.... it's easy to bring stuff back these days as they have made the rounds impossible and most people bring stuff back....

I used to try my best to complete my round when our rounds weren't so big, now I know it's impossible - I don't have the drive to put the effort in like I did before as I know the day will end in failure anyway - all due to upper management.

ironically, we recently had a meeting about productivity.... yet, they have demotivated us all with these larger rounds, therefore, I am sure productivity has dropped off massively and they won't be able to ever get posties to be as productive ever again.

When the dispute started years ago...it made people who never took their breaks finally start taking their breaks....and they still do til this day.... another reason why productivity has dropped. They used to get a LOT of free work out of the workforce, but because they treat us like dirt.... they have lost us.

There are a lot of guys going on sick with stress and burnout on the job right now and its an unfortunate consequence of the business trying to pile on the workloads whilst expecting managers and posties to suddenly just cope with it all. It creates a lack of engagement and unhappiness in the workplace and its one thing to leave the workloads because they are unachievable; its quite another to find that they are not being adequately covered either because the business are more concerned about making bigger profits
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
