This can't be right, can it??

Post by Jantyc0611 »

I recently rejoined Royal Mail after trying a couple of other jobs. Which unfortunately didn’t work out. I was re-employed as a postie under the new contracts of 24 hours. On examination of the contract I realised that I was on around £2 less per hour. With no d2d payments and unpaid break. I am now working full time hours, 37 hours. So if I’m on £2 less an hour then I’m on £74 less a week than my colleagues. Take into account d2d payments and no paid break then I am losing more than a £100 pound a week than my colleagues on the older contracts. Since I am paid monthly, then it equates to over £400 pounds a month less to that of the person doing the same job. If this is right then it’s an absolute disgrace how this was allowed to happen. Does our rate go up to meet the higher rate after a period of time??

Everything you have posted and found out is the correct situation.

Your pay is correct, since November 2022 new starters do not receive any supplements and are not paid for their breaks. If you work on a Sunday you will receive your standard hourly rate with no extra, any people working on the "old" contract will receive a premium for Sunday working. The new contracts are based on full time being 40 hours (not 37) and the contracted overtime rate of 1.25 times the hourly rate only kicks in when you have done more than 40 hours.

The CWU did mention about new starters being moved onto the same pay rate as longer serving posties, but the likelihood of it happening is less than Lord Lucan winning the Grand National on Shergar.

Don't think so - 12.29 and that's it, nothing like the previous system where it went up after you'd done 6 months
and then 12 months after joining.

Not as drastic as your situation but I get paid less than a colleague doing the same job because he still gets legacy driving allowance,
there's going to be different tiers of renumeration for the same job in RM for a while yet.

Why was it allowed to happen - that's a can of worms just waiting to be opened................

They claim it’s 10% more than industry average… Seems pretty disgraceful that they are paying new starters around £400 less a month like you say with no plan to scale that up to match existing contracts wages. Bad enough keeping people on part time contracts when they regularly work 37+ hours.

All employees receive wages in accordance with the contracts they agree to and thereafter in accordance with collectively bargained changes to terms.

The delivery supplement is for working in delivery , it’s not a fkin d2d payment.

The new deal for new starters was pushed through during the recent dispute by executive action, with the union nowhere to be seen when it happened. They made some comment after about ‘ trying to bridge the gap sooner rather than later’ but it won’t happen. You are stuck on the inferior contract, I must admit I didn’t realise it was around £100 less a week .

I believe overtime is a higher rate but it’s rarer than hens teeth. I would say though and it’s only my observation that 90% of new starts I’ve seen since covid are barely worth the minimum wage. Entitled snowflakes tbh.

I'm not having a go at you, but as an ex postie surely you must have had an idea, via media or ex colleagues what you were signing up for ?

You also have next to no chance of having your basic hours increased a permanent duty or even office.

You most probably won't get it after April 2024 either, along with all the other shady taxing of your contract of terms/conditions :thumbup

I most probably will, being as nothing will be renegotiated until at least April 2025.

Thank your Union for caving in on Equality and recommending members to vote Yes on the Worst deal ever negotiated.
