Anyone know the expected parcel per hour delivery rate?

I try five neighbours either side (10 in total) before conceding defeat. My mindset is to deliver first time, every time. Yes, it can add a bit of time today, but it means tomorrow you aren’t lugging around the same packages from yesterday in addition to a further 120 packets (or more) from today.

Id say 5 houses away is hardly a neighbour i dont know who lives 5 houses down from me..

I just try every house on the street until it's delivered, then if not then next street and carry on until it goes. My parcel rate is only about 5 per hour but nothing ever goes back! (except specials )

I card everyone and always take back 10 to 15 parcels a day and the next day i leave a couple bags to give me time to do my redeliveries,and with the amount of collections im getting lately i'll hardly be doing any letters ,we have never had it so easy ,they made the rules we just gotta follow them ,the company is going down the pan so we might as well have some fun.

...that is out too! "Shed", "Side of bin", "In bin" (when pouring down), "under patio table", "tucked under front of car top of drive". Zero brought back. Get it delivered and move on. Zero complaints.

I've now been getting the odd "Safe place opt out" pop up on my PDA which, sadly, puts an end to that fortunately found neighbours who take them so they now have the hassle to getting from them!

I dont bother with neighbours most of the time - i know loads of people are sick of taking parcels or could be on nightshift
Got more parcels to take back out the next day - cant do the lapsing then/ bring loops back

Sad but true - no fibs there! Although it is exceedingly rare - usually the first or second neighbour is home - I will go up to 10 in total if needed. Been doing multidrop this way for years. Other industry players expect it - Hived, FedEx, even Amazon (though bad Amazon drivers just blatantly doorstep).

I am paid to make successful deliveries, at first attempt, not bring them back. Bringing a parcel back should be a rare exception, not a regular occurrence. Having an empty van at the end of the round is my priority and end goal. By way of example, today I brought back one package (out of 135) as the customer had an opt-out, meaning I couldn’t try a neighbour etc. That was the first bring-back for over a week…

And my drop rate is still in the mid 20s each hour - and at a comfortable pace.

Sorry for piecemeal responses - not sure how to quote posts above. Don’t mean to hijack the thread.

I’m shocked by some of the responses above re leaving work behind or deliberately not trying to deliver successfully.

Being paid on a time basis, rather than per successful delivery, why wouldn’t you do everything possible to ensure your customer gets his new coffee machine that he’s been excitedly awaiting all day but missed as he had to do the school run? Or the old lady at number 20 getting her painkillers posted by the pharmacy? I could go on.

As long as your wages still go into the bank on the right day and in roughly the right amount, why does your opinion on what the company or your all-important union are playing at trump doing the job properly? Why not just concentrate on doing the job right and to the best of your ability?

You lot commenting in this vein show some real contempt for everybody but yourselves - contempt for customers, contempt for the company, contempt for your colleagues who try to do the job with enthusiasm and properly. No wonder RM is shaking up the workforce by bringing in new starters and new attitudes. That 1970s culture and workshy attitude is slowly diminishing with each new recruit.

But why not try to change and adapt? Not least because attitudes and work ethics like that will make you unemployable. You should thank your lucky stars RM employ you — nowhere else would let you behave in such a way.
