Smoking ban at PRDc

Not posted in the Processing sub-forum, as I want opinions from all sites.
From tomorrow, 1st November, a ban on smoking on site at PRDC is due to start.
Is this legal, if it’s not applied across all Royal Mail Group sites?

About time RM stopped the smokers going outside for “ciggie breaks”.The guys in my office have their ciggies,& then have full tea breaks,& then tell the gaffer they cannot complete their delivery! Why should the non smokers work more minutes per day? I know this happens in D/O’s & M/C’s,I have seen it going on all the time

Nothing to stop you going outside for a 10 minute smoke break and just loitering near the area.
I use an ecig personally but always arrive 15 minutes early to account for the break just to stop people with your attitude saying I get extra break time.

we are not allow to drink alcohol so why let people of all grades smoke ,both can be classed as not good for you !

then they can start on the managers walking round with coffee / tea cups .

if they want to smoke ,take it off the break allowance ,but manager don't even know half of them have gone out for a smoke ,so can't manage the time correctly ,then wonder why they have failed to get the work done .

I dont smoke but couldn't care less if people nip out for a cig, and if managers have a cuppa whilst walking around I dont care either, I have, like most at ours, have a cuppa at my fitting whilst prepping

Mate of mine worked in a large factory where guys and girls regularly went for smoke breaks. He didn't smoke, but he went out with them just to catch up on gossip. His line manager tackled him after a few months saying he wasn't allowed to go out because he wasn't smoking!!! My mate got the Union involved saying it was discrimination against non smokers and the line manager had to back down. The bosses eventually decided on a smoking ban in the whole factory.

In my opinion, smoking should be banned on all Royal Mail sites. Either that or let everyone have a 10 minute break every hour (and we all know how unlikely that is)

Then we must immediately and robustly ban all tea and coffee, energy drinks on nights & bluetooth ipod headphones on ALL machinery & whilst pushing "wheeled containers"
And enforce steel toecap / safety footwear in all areas where required on site
