Phone use at work

Hello everyone, I've just been dismiss for using my phone at work, I just wondered if this happened to anyone else or if there's a rule that states you are not allowed to. Thanks

There has to be more to it than you saying you were dismissed for using your phone, can you give us the details of conversations you have had prior to your dismissal, this doesn’t make sense.

Sounds very odd. What if its a call about a family member/accident etc

So short story long, I start working in the morning, double prepping like always, I prep my colleague frame first, after prep my one. When I arrived at the bottom of the frame I sit down on the chair....immediately the manager comes to me and told me not to sit on the chair, I declined the request telling him that the chair is there to sit on it....after another 5 minutes while I was still working i recived a phone call....i put my headphones in and kept throwing letters in... he comes again telling me not to be on the phone...and to end the conversation...I declined again telling him that I'm not the only one in the office using his phone....he called me in the office telling me that if he catches me on the phone again he will send me home....I replied that is not necessary becouse I go by myself....I went sick on stress for 2 weeks..becouse I felt discriminate and harassed....I came back ...they suspended me....and after more then 3 months they dismissed me for misconduct....i have to mention that I already have a 2 years suspension that ends in November (maybe that's why I was targeted)....I just wanted to know if it is a rule that doesn't allow you to talk on the phone....thanks.

Unauthorised absence / abandonment of duty / unprofessional behaviour.

Combined with the 2 year warning you were on, I can see why they think they have a case.

Talk to your rep, and be honest, don't leave any details out.

Every gaffer I know is on their phone constantly and not all work related. One has a scheduled chat with his children before they go to school.

Gaffer's also sit around chatting and drinking coffee all day but it doesn't mean the workers can do the same? Surely the issue here is the OP just ignored a reasonable request from his manager?

That’s not a reasonable request, all you have to say is you felt unwell so you sat down how would they know , there are a myriad of other reasons to sit down , that’s preposterous to target someone like this person appears to have been for that reason. They don’t like people standing up (ironically) to their intimidatory and bullying behaviour, very few of these managers would survive in the real world with the approach they take.

Obviously some on going issues. Many people sit down to prep the bottom rows of their frames and d2d, as the poster said it's what the chair is for .
If they are banning the use of mobiles, I would not be able to contact my other half to drop my next bags.
