Today we had an OPL and a MCM visit to explain and help the clueless COMs to understand that we really must above all clear our T24 above every other letter and parcel in the building. I spoke with both of them and asked if they would put that in writing for me and the rest of the staff....they politely declined but explained that the CWU were all onboard with this 'new' policy and making sure we deliver these items is the only way RM will survive, retain and win new business. I politely enquired why the letter from the bank about a new low interest loan to Mrs Smith wasn't quite so important or the 80th birthday card to old Joan at number 43 should be left in the frame for 3 days? They mumbled about having somewhere to be and moved on.
I'm all for doing what I'm told in the 7 and a half hours they have me but I'm now at a point where I wonder how far to push it and what (if any) support I would get from CWU HQ if I politely decided to leave a selection of the T24s in favour of delivering an extra loop of yesterday's and today's letters?
Our rep and area rep have used the IR framework to raise the prioritising of different streams of mail and it is now at a stage 3 so it's now s**t or bust as far as I can see. Do we all enact a bit of civil disobedience and deprioritise the tracked ourselves or wait for someone at a higher level to actually make a decision and wait for the next wooly joint statement?

Re: Tracked T24 Prioritised (Not Prioritised)
It’s been going on in various guises for 4-5 years now.
I admire your punk spirit and sympathise with your frustrations but your basically describing the “unofficial” business model…
The company, ofcom and the government allow it to happen while denying/burying it’s happening…a kind of corrupt, vested interest, corporate cronyism that infects most British institutions. Customers and tax payers get shafted, mps and prime ministers get to audition for roles in said corporations, and ceos/shareholders make off like bandits.
To make a stand individually or as an office would be pointless at this stage in the game and invite a lot of stressful and undesirable attention, especially as the CWU are pretty much irrelevant at a national level. Although I’d always recommend shaming a couple of Royal Mail suits when the opportunity arises!

Re: Tracked T24 Prioritised (Not Prioritised)
I had time and was angry over one of a million RM related things earlier this year.
As such I read the entirety of the postal service act 2011 and the full conditions of RMs operating licence.
I am recalling this at 5:30am from stuff I read several months ago so obviously not quoted exactly but simply the jist
The outcome of which is that I learned that RM are indeed allowed to offer premium products outside the scope of the USO - this of course comes as no surprise, and makes sense, and is no big deal.
The documentation then goes on to state that any premium products/services offered must not be offered at the expense of the USO.
When putting the operating licence together with the legislation it seems to me that any attempt to prioritise tracked over the USO is not just a bit naughty and immoral. But would be in fact ]unlawful
Which is why when this directive crops up its never written and always comes from above.
I now point this out and I am quickly left alone.

I've also seen tracked items left on a York that haven't been delivered but fortunately they have not been scanned on the indoor tile so the customer doesn't know that its due out for the day and it doesn't show up as failures on the system.....
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

They'll show up against the inward MC or the Distribution of the inward MC as a failure as the system has no way of knowing if the item has physically made it to the DOpostslippete wrote: ↑20 Oct 2023, 18:06I've also seen tracked items left on a York that haven't been delivered but fortunately they have not been scanned on the indoor tile so the customer doesn't know that its due out for the day and it doesn't show up as failures on the system.....

Re: Tracked T24 Prioritised (Not Prioritised)
Interestingly (admittedly not by everyone's standards)
Today is the first time in maybe 5 months I was explicitly instructed to prioritise the Tracked.
Mail due to sorted on the IPS was stood down to assist this.
