04/10/23 Mount Pleasant Bulletin

Post by jimallen »

Hi! Here's the Mount Pleasant bulletin of 04 October... Comments welcome!

FEET NOT TONGUES
Union leaders now say (in a Letter To Branches)
that talks have broken down with management
over the issue of the "supernumeraries" and
"redeployment". Then they ask us what we think
the best way is, to "put pressure" on RM! Honestly!
This is playing the fool with us. They know very
well that it's not talking, but walking, that's needed.

SIGN ONLINE
At least for the time being, we can do a petition...
This is where we can sign online, for now:
shorturl.at/fgiMU - to express our opposition to the
"supernumeraries" of today, the "supernumeraries"
of tomorrow and against managers cutting our jobs
and hours and trying to redeploy us!

THE CRAP COMING FROM ABOVE
A couple of weeks ago in Processing, the shift
manager came to give us a briefing about the
"ongoing Mail Centre resizing" - yes that's what
they call the ongoing job cuts! He says that some
of us are "surplus" because of the new huge parcel
sorting warehouse (the Midlands Super-Hub) and
the fact that it's taking some of the workload away
from the Mount... So can he explain why the
workload here is as heavy as usual?

THEIR LIES
The fact is, that managers say there is less work -
and then ask us to work Saturday overtime..!
Obviously there is much more work than can be
dealt with (with fewer hands than ever) in normal
hours! And if they don't find enough of us to do
OT? We bet they'll want to bring in agency
workers!

STOP THEIR REDEPLOYMENT!
Now management wants to send us
"supernumeraries" to the "redeployment" centre in
Whitechapel... for 2 days per week?! We've
already said many times that we do not agree to be
"redeployed" anywhere! This is what we fought
against, but apparently it wasn't clear... So, do we
need to raise our fists again?

GET OFF OUR BACKS
The latest changes on Lates in PSA, on top of all
the cuts already made due to Covid/social
distancing, are causing real chaos, with 1 of us
doing the job of 2, at least. And managers are
surprised that PSA is failing?

THEIR OWN GOAL
It's a classic game which management plays: they
blame us for the chaos they've caused and then try
to intimidate us. But it's not working. We know
who is to blame. So they may as well give up!

PLEASE GO TAKE A HIKE, INSTEAD!
Oh dear, we even see the likes of Mr Witless
tipping on the belts in PSA! Does he really think he
can help fix the mess that he's made, or replace
the real workers whose heads he's chopped off, by
tipping the odd mail sack with his soft and
indelicate hands?

DEFINITELY FISHY!
Other managers just try to cover their own backs
when there's failing work in their area. Like "King
Etcetera", who somehow manages to make the
excess work in Letters "magically disappear". We
wonder where he's hiding it..?

THEIR MESS!
Processing managers are staggering our breaks,
so that the work carries on without stopping, as if
this was factory assembly line. It means we can't
have tea and a chin-wag with our mates... So,
must we bring a picnic basket, thermos, and folding
table and chairs to our work stations?

LET'S SHARE THE WORK!
After the re-sign in W1, jobs have been cut. But
the DUMs claim they haven't actually made job
cuts, since some workmates took voluntary medical
retirement... so all they did was not replace them!
This is pure deceit. And now they expect us to
work overtime to cover for this consequent
shortage of hands and feet?

THE BOSSES SHOULD PAY FOR THIS!
A few weeks ago, we cleaners had a meeting and
were told that our pension contribution would "have
to" increase. Apparently we're going to be asked to
pay an extra 1%... which means 1% less in our
wages! It may not sound like a lot, but every penny
counts. This extra contribution should come from
the bosses.

WHAT'S HE DONE NOW?
The Elephant is so sensitive, it just takes one of us
cleaners to tell him something he doesn't like, for
him to start stamping his big feet and snorting
through his trunk... Has he got a guilty
conscience? Because he definitely should have.

Why is this being posted in Blueshirts rather than Distribution/Collections/batch-york pusher?

I'd guess it's because Mount Pleasant has Deliveries as well as Processing and Distribution.
